In comparison to doing nothing, yes, the cost is minimal. But having all of these different events every week adds up over time. I'm not saying that they are spending the budget of DL's 50th or the Millenium Celebration, but I think they could easily be spending Year of A Million Dreams amounts of money to get these mini-events off the ground. Never underestimate the spending that Disney can do before anything hits the parks; with dozens of corporate layers to go through first, it adds up quickly. With a regular year-long event, they really only have the beauracracy once; with this event, they keep doing it every single week. Yes, the events themselves are pretty cheap to run on a daily basis, but I would guess that the back-of-house expenses are pretty high

And everything else they do in the name of "limited time magic" is virtually stuff they don't have to spend much because they do it every single day there. All they have to do is paint a sign and pull out old rubberheads from the closet and dust them. Please. My intelligence is insulted and so should you be Ferret. I know you want to "believe in the magic", but let's be honest here. Don't be an apologist.

While that may not seem like a lot, if you do it every week (or even every other week, since this nationwide campaign doesn't seems to think that one mini-event for both resorts is enough), it adds up over the course of the year. From what I've seen, the majority of the character costumes (at least on the DL side, which has gotten more coverage from the larger local fanbase) are ones that legitimately aren't seen in the parks any more. And given that the costumes are in great condition, I'm lead to believe that they were made new for the event. If you figure 5-10 new rubberhead costumes for 25 weeks of the year, that quickly adds up to a hefty chunk of change.

No, they're not spending a huge amount of money in comparison to their bigger promotions in the past. However, they are still spending a lot of money on this promotion that doesn't appear to be the least bit effective. They're basically just throwing money away in order for the marketing team to save face. Money that could be spent toward real attractions, entertainment, or refurbishments, or that could have negated the recent price increases.

I'm hardly an apologist. If you spent the time to actually read some of the threads here on LP, rather than swoop in and attack whenever you felt like it, you'd see that I'm one of the harshest critics with the background knowledge to support it. If we're being completely honest, I think that the Limited Time Magic promotion is really stupid and has little benefit, and I'd love to see it fail from the corporate level (and given that they've decided to run a bi-costal summer promotion on top of LTM, that's exactly what's happening), but I'm also just interested in seeing how everything actually fits together and makes sense to the back of house staff that comes up with these loony ideas. Apologist? Hardly.

As for insulting intelligence, how about you prove me wrong by actually taking the effort to react to our threads in a way that adds to the discussion, either positively or negatively, without resorting to insults and overly dramatic posts every time somebody has a different opinion than you. It's a discussion board; let's discuss! Until then, I'm done with you.
