Bobee, you are so young at heart, I had forgotten age! Lol. Spirit and CHiMike, I am so with you. At the DLP restaurants I can still flick through multiple pages on menus. I am worrried every time a WDW manager goes to DLP, I am frightened they will ruin our resort too (sadly they have already increased the no of buffet restaurants)

Originally Posted By vbdad55 <Ah, even worse than that vbdad - an Assistant Director in charge of PMs and Programme Managers< kindred spirits -Program Director here , however I am on so many calls I feel like a PM for my PM's. ( if that makes sense). Trying to find younger project managers who really want to OWN the darn project - and 'gulp' make decisions. There are days ( like today ) that I swear if I hear one more time, " I just want to run this past you", or " could you join the call,I just want to keep you aware " - when it really means - " is this OK ? " I may scream.

However, what they are doing at DLP is something akin to this Imagine if at the Contemporary they felt Chef Mickey's was not enough and they turned the Wave into a buffet and closed California Grill down for an indefinite period? So no a la carte options in the Hotel New York anymore (closing down what used to be the resort's 2nd best restaurant). Then they decide to turn Whispering Canyon and Artist Point both into buffets so again there are no a la carte options. Then at the Value resorts they turn the food courts into buffets. And then in the park, imagine if the closed the shops in the wonderful alleys of the Morocco pavillion and turned them into a Buffet restaurant. And they stop live entertainment in the Diamond Horshoe and offer a charater buffet instead! Then all of these buffets offer 80% of the same dishes as each other but at different price points dependent on location. DLP has 69 restaurants (table service 13 - 3 of them are character experiences, buffet 13 and counter Service 29). The count is now 8 buffets in 7 hotels, 1 in the Disney Village, 3 in DLP, and 33% of the Studios). To me this feels too much, what do you guys think? Thankfully the quality of the DLP tables service options are excellent.

This quotation brings to mind why I will never be the world's biggest fan of the World Showcase at Epcot. When a guest can confuse a dish - or any experience - with something like it back home, that's a bad sign. I will never find myself confusing Sleeping Beauty's castle with some castle across town. And while the Lilly Belle may remind me of that steamboat I saw once in New Orleans, that's a good thing. But the restaurants at the world showcase remind me too much of what I can get at home - usually better, always cheaper, and definately less crowded. I've wondered whether the World Showcase would have happened if the Disney folks could have seen the future. Air fare, especially until a few years ago, cheap enough that a trip to Paris wasn't a lot more than a trip to Epcot. Immigration and diversity that led to 95% of Americans living within half an hour of a Chinese restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and an Italian restaurant while I bet 75% of us, those who live in decent sized cities have easy access to Mediteranian, Japanese, a faux British or faux Irish pub, Thai, etc. I just can't get that excited about experiencing the restaurants of the World Showcase when they don't offer anything a zillion nice, moderately themed ethnic restaurants offer at half the price.
