I know so many people (famlily and friends and co-workers) who simply either can't afford insurance or are tossed aside because of illness/pre-existing conditions. I'm a capitalist. Always will be. (BTW, that doesn't mean the bastardization that Wall Street has pulled over the last 15-20 years) But healthcare can't be just another for-profit business. It can't. People die and suffer horrifically. And yet here in Miami right now I'm watching people protesting (albeit what looks like maybe two dozen at most) over us becoming 'socialists' ... I'm sorry, but I will never get where they are coming from. I keep remembering that movie from a few years ago (think Samuel Jackson was the lead) where the father basically goes nuts and takes over a hospital at gunpoint and orders docs to treat his dying child. Scary thing is, I think that's a very rational response to the heartless system we have today. No. I am not a fan of the government. But I'll take them over the healthcare/insurance lobby any day. They already have the death panels in full operation working out of cubicles in business parks all around the USA. And hey, how about that TRONorail? Way kewl? or Way over the top?

I have tracked public opinion through polls on multiple issues for years. During that time I have never seen one single issue have such a drastic swing in such a relatively short time.

You can't really expect folks to spend tons of money, and tons of time to work at an extremely stressful job for long hours without making the bucks. It's insane to think we will get the number of people we need, and the best people, with conditions like that, unless they are adaquately compensated. Next time you visit your Doctor find out how much of his time is devoted to charity, and find out how many accounts he writes off per month as no pays. You will be very surprised. Or possibly come down here, and go to the Hospital that my wife had to take her mother to. It's a hospital in a very affluent part of town, and on a Thursday afternoon it took my mother-in-law nearly 4 hours to see a doctor. My wife was talking to one of the nurses who explained that over half of the people had absolutely no insurance, and it's best to have an ambulance bring you in rather than to walk in off the street.

Did you see Time magazine's March 1st cover story "Why Washington is Frozen"? Well, Obama proved he can get something major done, and perhaps many people respect that. - now that the bill has passed, people are paying attention to the details and realizing it isn't as radical or far-reaching as some have portrayed it? - this poll was somehow manipulated or is inaccurate? That's possible too since it was just one poll. If that is true, we should be able to tell when the next round of polls is released. The next election should really be interesting. Will success breed success? How can the Republicans offer a viable leadership alternative with nothing but negativity? Where are their solutions? How can simply opposing Obama be enough? Socrates "Stay tuned!"

But Lee has been here ... well, not sure about this board. Frankly, I think he's like me in that other than EPCOT and DAK, WDW bores him to tears. But he's been on LP.com ... check the TDR board. He popped in last week when the OLC announced its plans to go the WDC route and plop an Aladdin spinner (this time Jasmine actually and themed a bit) to TDS. I even got him to talk a bit of Disney projects from Anaheim to Dubai ...

And I don't know any docs that are on food stamps and driving 88 Buicks with 289,000 miles (not that an 88 Buick would ever make it that far but ... ) and picking up shifts at night at 24-hour Walmarts to pay the third mortgage before they lose their homes etc ... When you start talking about what's fair, most folks say let the market decide. And it can't because it has been inherently corrupted. So, what's fair? Should my general practioner be limited to $200K a year? $500K? $1 million? What is enough? Even in countries with universal healthcare, you don't have docs living in poverty or anything close. And you wouldn't here. <<Next time you visit your Doctor find out how much of his time is devoted to charity, and find out how many accounts he writes off per month as no pays. You can't agree with the Prez. You must be so far on the right that your ass rubs up against Russia's leg. No one in the party is showing any leadership whatsoever because the Tea Party (along with idiots like Beck and Limbaugh) preach hatred and lies and the Republicans that still have sanity are afraid to stand up against the tidal wave of negativity, even though it does practically guarantee they'll lose at the polls. <<Where are their solutions?>> They have none. Or the few that do, are afriad to present them. Not afraid they won't work or don't make sense. But afraid because the party has whipped up folks like rabid dogs and they will have no viable futures if they don't tow the line. Right now, it's one of simply being sore loser. They still haven't gotten over the fact that my beloved Sarah isn't a heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the world. So, they're going to take their ball and go home until election time (possibly throwing a brick into your window on the drive by) and f-American until then. <<How can simply opposing Obama be enough?>> I don't believe it can be. They put so much time, money, effort and hate into it that what's left?
