Call me an old curmudgeon then. But I swear, if I hear one more theme song about "magic," or "wishes" or "dreams" sung by either the general "Disney princess" voice or a chorus of children, I'm gonna lose about a decade worth of lunches. There, I said it.

Two entirely different creative teams. There is a team that is responsible for the synergy product (ie. stuff that ends up at multiple parks) and produce stuff like the HSM parades (all of them except the very first debacle at WDW) but they didn't run with the two Celebration offerings. All down to choice.

On The Record was an odd piece - it was actually a fairly decent theatrical event for a revue show. And David Chase's arrangements were excellent. How it will always have a special place in my heart for bringing the wonderful Ashley Brown into the Disney family. Personally she is the best Mary Poppins I've seen.

I couldn't agree with you more Dabob2 - I guess it may have just been a different era. Remember The Magic really kicked off all that schlock at WDW ('96 25th Anniversary) but I kinda liked that one too. But there was something about Believe that really got to me. It may have just been the fireworks were so unprecedented at that time but I really liked the notion of storytelling with fireworks which was new to me at the time.

I'm sure I'll always be remembered on LP as the DCA Champion but there was something about '01 that promised so much for me. That first holiday season should have been the start of something and I'll always remember LuminAria (and its theme song Shine) fondly.

The problem is always detaching individual events from your own mood, perception or feelings at the time. '01/'02 was an incredible time for Disney theme parks - three new ones opening in little more than a year (all of variable quality for sure) but the period promised so much and delivered so little. So the small gems like Believe..., Eureka! and LuminAria stuck out for me.

Think of the fireworks at DL. How many parents have to stick their kids on their shoulders for them to see the fireworks? And that's with a lot of open space up and down main street.

Now think of how crammed everyone is going to be watching WoC. Mark my words....there are going to be a lot of unhappy kids and parents.

So everyone is going to crowd around the viewing area where at Disneyland, the fireworks can be seen from Main Street, Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and some other spots here and there. But you do have to think about how many people are actually going to be there after a year or two. Will it be more than Fantasmic? or less? Because it is DCA we are talking about, not Disneyand. So the crowds might be smaller, but with the expansion and renovation, that might balance it or even bring more people to DCA than Disneyland...did that make any sense at all?

Haha! One of my truly enduring memories was at the TARZAN premiere party in NYC. Ashley had just been announced as Mary as she turned up. We were on the stage of the venue dancing until the wee hours of the morning. We had a blast.

I've not met that many theatrical folks (usually only those associated with Disney) but I can say she is the least pretentious performer I've ever met. She was so gracious and polite the entire time. When she came to London for the BBC Radio 2 show at the Lyceum last year she was wonderful. A true artiste.

First off, I agree that there's something funky going on with the pacing/segments used. I was really excited when I heard the Hercules music, as it's a great piece and rarely used these days. I was also intrigued that they were doing the POTC segment, since there hadn't been any mention of it since the original concept art was released, featuring the POTC skull on one of the mist screens in an image with tons of other characters and such.

Second, the show seems really really long. I'm sure it's a better length when your up close to it and seeing it with the projections and all, but it just seemed to drag on in several places. That could be because they were showing it out of order (getting 2 slow sections in a row can kill a show's momentum), but even each segment seemed to be pretty long. And that's all without the Alice segment, which they've been hyping the most so I really doubt it's been cancelled.

Also, there seemed to be a lot of big finales for the individual segments. When the first few segments ended, they all had a ton of the grid fountains shoot up as high as they could, making a giant cloud of mist. While that may be fine for the grand finale at the end, doing it several times throughout the show just makes it lose the impact.

There's also a ton of water being shot into the air for this show. Fantasmic! uses fountains, but nothing anywhere near this scale, or this close to the guests. Yet, guests still manage to get a pretty good misting at times. I wonder how soaked people sitting in front will be, especially during the windy and cold times of year. (Speaking of cold times, any chance they could make a Christmas show?) It can be uncomfortable watching F! at times because of the mist, so I can just imagine the problems that WOC might create.

And last, I wonder what happened to Little Squirt. He seemed to be a good connecting storyline from the presentations, but I wonder if he was just too abstract for it to make sense. Without him, I wonder a little bit about how easy it will be to follow the storyline, but if they have strong musical choices, it shouldn't be too hard. From what I heard, there are a lot of segments that rely heavily on characters talking, which I feel like is a bit of a downer. A show like this should be able to have almost no dialogue and still make sense, so it seems like they're using it as a crutch to hold the show up.

That said, there are a lot of really impressive segments in there that I'm excited to see in person. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Buzz Lightyear part, which I assumed would use You've Got a Friend In Me (one of my least favorite songs of all time), but it uses the score from the films, which I think is a better choice. I was really surprised by the April Shower part, and it looks like it will be one of the highlights of the show. Great music and choreography, so it should be a success. I also really like that they're using Hellfire from Hunchback (is the choir in the background singing the words or just "ah"ing on the pitches?), especially with the mix of water and fire. I'm hoping it will be a great show!

Thanks for that Trekker....and actually, I have been posting here since 2000. Some bad luck with computers saw a few crashes and I lost my password a couple of times.

    It happens.

But yes, I am a few months away from a tenth anniversary(YIKES!!!)on LP.

(from Trekker)"That he doesn't post here as much anymore could be due to any number of things."

    Thanks again mate!

Yes - the afforementioned crashes, pressures of work and travelling, trying to spend time away from the 'net and, well, the whole Disney 'net scene wears me out after a while and I just get sick of the same things over and over. A few conspicuous blowhards(and I am NOT referencing this mousemerf person - frankly I though HE/SHE was quite new here)make the whole "haning out" thing on Disney boards a bit annoying as well.

Oh and the DOMs piss me off to no end as well. I deleted Lou("Everything's WONDERFUL at Disney World[as long as they keep passing me the swag]")Mongello's cloying and saccharine podcast from my itunes weekly list because the sugary nature of his 'casts was starting to rot my teeth!!!

I thought that the reason they had to do the Fun Wheel makeover was because they were going to use the new lighting system during the show. I suppose they could have hidden some lighting effects behind the enormous Mickey (like the projector for Chernabog's head), but it seems like they could have done that with the old sun face in the middle of it.

I also hope that if they are using the wheel in the show that they keep it kind of a surprise. As they have it now, they're showing off the effects to the whole world. If they kept the color to a minimum (like the tower near the Palace of Fine Arts rotunda, which only uses white and light blues and greens), when it goes into full color during the show it will have a lot more surprise impact. Fantasmic! wouldn't be as cool if the dragon sat out in full view just before the show, so why give away the surprise to WOC?

A camera can't show you how high everything really is and it won't give you the clarity of the projections and colors as well unless they are using ten thousand dollar cameras like Disney does with its promos. Plus the soundtrack, the thumping of the water, and all the lights, this is defiantly one for live. Also I don't think they were even running everything in that video anyways. Some of the front screens came up but no projections, not all the lighting was on and the back wall projection I don't think was on as well. Mr. Churn also turned off before the segment was over which makes me think he had a problem so I am just going to have to wait and see.

I do agree that they kinda ruined some of the surprise of the finale by doing all those high shoots early however Steve has said that the finale for the finale is going to be a closely guarded secret my guess involving projections and lighting (and maybe some in audience water shots)that will actually seal the show. With how long they have those things shooting into the air at the last moment I would have to say some awesome projections yet to be seen will be done.

Sometimes I think this Disney geekiness goes too far.
I will wait until I come out to see the show this summer and will not looked at the video.
