While I can't say I enjoy the music of Madonna (outside of a few songs) or the Dixie Chicks, I think the public forgets one important fact here: Even the celebrities are allowed to have and express political opinions. Yet when they do, regardless of whether it's on or off stage, it seems that they're blasted for even having an opinion in the first place. After all, they're not "one of us." Well, they are. It's easy to think they're isolated from the rest of the world -- and that would be true of some (think: Tom Cruise) -- but I don't believe there aren't any famous people out there who give serious thought to political matters. Like the rest of us, they have the right and obligation to participate. As for speaking out and using the stage for it, yes I would say that it scorches my biscuits at times, but it's nothing new. I go to a show to be entertained, too, and a couple bands I used to like fell out of my favor because of their preachiness.

In reality, I did like some of her early stuff. But, until she starts singing country music I probably won't buy her albums. But, if she put out a GOOD country album, the fact that she is Madonna wouldn't prevent me from buying it.

I understand how some bands one would like would fall out of favor because of preachiness or behavior... they're being well paid to entertain, not supply social commentary. they usually are ill prepared to do anyway. And no it's nothing new, but with 24 hour news mdeia now, and reporters searching for stories to fill it, we get to hear more of it thanever before

I can hear Mele singing this song to her significant other while...........

Madonna has done something right though as look at all she's accomplished!< Joe, she's made a lot of money selling pornography and a risque sexual lifestyle to children and young adults for 20 years-- that is an accomplishment? If that is the bar for accomplishment we've got some people out there who will be in the accomplishment Hall of Fame...including many of the artists you criticize as todays rubbish.. but hey, as long as she has a children's book out -- she's OK - as fkurucz has stated, I think this discussion maybe says more about us as a society than it does about Madonna. I guess I've become my parents because as the parent of 2 daughters I find it loathesome, but hey, anything goes I guess.
