Friends travelled on the same day to the same location from a different UK airport and didnt have to remove their shoes, and were given the bags free!...mmm

p.s. the security in the airports is really a joke aside from international...I can tell you this from experience. It's totally easy to smuggle stuff (a friend told me).

Stick it up your - hmmm...shirt collar, and you'd have a melty mess very quickly. :)

I remember on my last flight (the sucky one), I had some squeezable applesauce in my bag. When we were halfway across the ocean, I was wondering if it was even allowed really - so I ate them in the bathroom. :) It was really silly. Fortunately, most people are decent. It's like Disney security - if someone wants to bring something in, they can. But most people are there to have a good time, not to hurt anyone. Real security is what you can't see.

I've also put it inside my bag so I don't loose it. And finally, I realized that I could just keep it in my pocket, and they would never know. There's no metal in it, so there is no chance that the metal detector would find it.

On a somewhat related note, I always wear flip-flops, and they always make me take them off in security. However, I've gotten a full size pair of scissors (the blades are probably 4-5") through security in both LAX (I didn't even know I had them) and Chicago O'Hare (I forgot that I still had them), without a problem. But, they still take my mom's eyelash curlers every time she tries to go through...

In fact, I don't think that carry-on was allowed for a bit before that (I remember not being sure if I'd be allowed to even bring magazines on).

There were no plastic bags at the time for liquids. There were trash bins for liquid eyeliner, lotion, anything liquid. Lipstick and Chapstick were okay by then, but just maybe by days.

For a long time, I didn't have to take my sneakers off. Now, it seems all shoes have to come off. That is really weird on the eyelash curlers. It is really crazy. Seriously, can you imagine threatening someone with eyelash curlers?

I don't care if someone is on the plane with a knife, boxcutters, etc. They could just as easily know martial arts, or hit someone violently with a book.

Preferable not on a 18 hour car trip or a school fieldtrip!

DH is a Paramedic and brought home some nifty bags made especially for things like that. When liquid goes in no matter how you set it down or turn it, nothing comes out.

Back to the car thing.... We also always have a rental (unless we drive, of course). When we left CBR in Aug, we checked our luggage at the hotel, but drove to the airport in our rental to return it. They took our luggage but not us. I would think that they would also do that on the way in if you needed. We started our stay off property so that wasn't an option and didn't realize it was an option on the return trip until we went to the hotel lobby to check in for our flight and they asked us where our bags were, we quickly rushed and got them.

So if Patrick didn't want to drive to the hotel alone,I think I would check into magical express just taking the bags. I hopeit all works out. Let us know what you decide.
