The same can be said for China. Many people there have an intense hatred for Japan. Taiwan, not so much. I've talked to numerous locals, and many of them actually liked when Japan tried to use forced assimilation. It's odd, but they say that Taiwan was a much safer and better place when it was under the control of Japan. For some reason, the Japanese weren't as brutish and unforgiving to the Taiwanese.

I went to Hong Kong's history museum a full times and out of the three floors of the city's entire history, MOST of the third floor is devoted to the Japanese occupation. But I didn't realize the difference of attitudes about Taiwan and Mainland China about this issue. So are you saying they felt better under Japanese rule than China's?

Well, since they've been "under the gun" ever since, I can understand the nostalgia (misplaced though it is!).

In a sense, Japan did treat Taiwan like it was part of its own country. The Taiwanese who were around to experience Japan's rule of Taiwan still show very positive feelings towards the country and its people and continue to share their beliefs with the next generation.

And EVERYONE hates America. That's something the entire world can forget their differences and rally around every once in awhile ;).
