Unfortunately my home is a target for extremists and I'm certain that it will be even more so once my backyard theme park is up and running. They may mistake it for Disneyland due to the high levels of theming and detail. So security will need to be beefed up - and they will actually have to strip-search guests and - shock horror - actually look inside people's bags. A novel approach to security I know.

If I have an entire day to kill instead of waiting at the airport in LAX I will jump onto the DLBus and get off at the Grand Cal with a tip they will hold my luggage at the Hotel with no questions asked and I am off on my merry way for a few hours at DL. No questions asked nothing to verify that I actually am a guest that has at least left some type of ID or credit card on file. Unless they are xraying my luggage in their HOLD area...??? A lot of problems with security but hey it has created jobs for Americans(another?)...
Can I work for your security in your backyard of fun?

Someone could easily fit a gun in their bag too!

<<I still love my DCA - I'm sure I'll regress a few years when they start to dismantle the entrance.>>

    I've always enjoyed DCA.

But it NEVER should have been built as is (and I am not saying I agree with all that has been done or all that is currently being done) ... BUT ... you can NOT build Disney Parks on the cheap ... you can't.

    It damages your brand.

    It damages your credibility.

And, in the end, you spend more trying to fix the mistake than you would have if you had done things right to begin with.

I must admit, I do like the losing his grip on reality Leemac more than the Disney can do no wrong Leemac of circa earlier this decade.

All of this, ESPECIALLY the last line as DCA, WDSP and HKDL are proving ;).

I couldn't disagree more. The entrance has always been the park's biggest design flaw in my opinion. It might have looked good on paper but in reality it's a mess. The GG Bridge is completely out of proportion and the sun sculpture is way too small. Also, the whole effect only works if you're standing directly in the center of the Esplanade.

Hell, I never really thought DCA 1.0 was actually considered a real Disney theme park by the former brass either. I just thought we were all getting punk'd! ;D

(The second line was a joke--and a joke it was!! I'm on FIRE tonight!!!)

I tried to tell my family about the postcard thing once; all college educated and very sharp folks who'd been to DCA several times, and they just sort of stared at me for a second and then said "Uh, really? Okay, I guess it kind of looks like that."

No one ever gets the postcard thing until it's spelled out for them and they are dragged into the center of the Esplanade and told to stare at it for a while. It's like those cheesy 3-D posters they used to sell at the mall where if you stared at it for awhile and your friend told you to look for the dolphins and the UFO, you'd finally see the dolphins and the UFO..... Oh, it's a postcard!

Buena Vista Street may be more literal and a cliche, but it won't need secret explanations. ;-)

I don't need somebody to explain to me what Town Square and Main Street are supposed to evoke. It's called "good design", dummies!
