I know they will be redoing the Pizza Oom Mow Mow/Burger Invasion/SS Rustworty/Mullholland Madness corner, starting in the fall. The Souvenir 66/Corn Dog Castle area has been closed since last fall (and they still haven't done anything except remove the dinosaur!). The Little Mermaid building certainly won't be finished any time soon. The Maliboomer is apparently going away now, and they've been pushing back the Midway Shops for years, literally. All these projects are supposed to be finished by next summer, so that the entire Pier area will be done and they can focus on the rest of the park. Once Mermaid opens, the big crowds will be in the Pier for a while, so that area needs to be finished. Then, they can shift the focus to Carsland the year after. And when does the Buena Vista Street redo work in to all this? I know it starts just after Labor Day, but how long will it run? Given how long things like the swings and Souvenir 66 have taken, I can't imagine they will have both sides of the entrance done by next summer. And from Labor Day to Memorial Day, it looks like we can plan on walls all over the entrance, stretching from the Midway Games to the Challenge Trail, in various places in Hollywood Pictures Backlot for the Red Car line, covering the farm area for it to be turned into part of Carsland, and somewhere in the Wharf to get the secondary entrance into CL. Good thing people are wanting to see the World of Color, since there will be enough walls to keep just about anybody away.
Originally Posted By FerretAfros "I hope they put something there, not just a park but maybe a new indoor dark ride or something..." From everything I've heard, the park will just be a placeholder of sorts until they can put an attraction in that spot. It will be something similar to the TSMM setup, where the entrance is next to the path, but the main show building will be behind the Screamin tracks. They don't have anything specific planned right now, but they think it will do more for their image to take down the Maliboomer and replace it with nothing, rather than keep it around.

This is one time where I think removing an attraction and replacing it with nothing is the best thing to do, for the greater good of the park and the theme. Buh-bye Boomer!

This was what Lutz said back on March 30th: >>"The day after Labor Day the Maliboomer will bleed out the air from its launch tubes for the last time... The Maliboomer will be dismantled throughout September, and that charmless and cheap cement launch pad it uses will be turned into a small park with shade trees and benches. Then, when the new fiscal year starts for Disney in early October, Mulholland Madness will close to begin its seven month transformation into Goofy’s Sky School."<< -Al Lutz, 3/30/2010 Hista98, if you can give us a link to the website or personality online that released that info before Lutz did, that would be great. It would provide us all a great service to know an online resource that offers this type of gossipy (yet inane) news before even Lutz spills it. Who announced the Maliboomer removal before Lutz did on March 30th, please? I'd love to visit that website for the latest scoop.

Its 'Roll'! B. He was the one that told us about the WOC happenings for MONTHS on end, including the FP/SP idea, how it would be distributed, the showtimes, PP rides closing at night, the third showing and even Disney's bluff of how they were planning to extend DCA to 11 every night when it was scheduled to close at 10. Hell he was the first one to tell us all about Glow Fest a month before Disney announced it. That was a HUGE surprise since no one outside of Disney knew it even existed until he mentioned it first. This is all 'big picture' stuff here dude, one article after another for months having point on stuff, hence being on a 'roll'. The Maliboomer stuff is small fry since we all knew it was going at some point, but he told us the date months ago. C. As its been said about a thousand times already, he isnt right about everything, thats life. And yes, he wasnt right about MSEP coming back, but considering everything else he got right lately, I think most people will get over it. Its ALWAYS going to be a mixed bag, but lately he's been way more right than wrong. That's just the truth, deal with it homie! D. The only 'worshippers' here are people who can't seem to make one post without talking about him obsessively. I pointed him out in passing because thats where I first heard it from...but then the other 99% of my post is about the issue itself. Just focus on the message and less on the messenger if it bothers you so much. Why is this so hard for you?

So it sounds like basically BVS and Carsland will debut the same time since they both wont be ready until Spring of 2012. It sucks because these are the two most exciting projects IMO and will bring the biggest cosmetic and thematic changes to the park (the more bulldozers a project has, the happier I am ). But thats how it is, the bigger something is the longer it will take naturally. And they look like they will be worth the wait too . But I'm excited so much of the pier will be very differnt next year, especially with TLM. I really just like PPK and SSS additions alone. They just made the area that much better and cooler and we are just talking nicer viewing areas and a swing ride. But those two have already won me over big time, so anything else is a huge icing on the cake for me.

I'd like to say I'm glad to see it torn down, but I just can't because of the memories. I was in line for the Maliboomer when I met 'The Clones'. They are the finest people on earth, and if it wasn't for the Maliboomer, I would not have met them in a way that led to wonderful times in my life. "Eyes up." That's an inside shout out to a friend. But my favorite Maliboomer memory is when I had the one chance to visit DCA with my daughter who lives in New York City (I'm in Sacramento, CA, too far away). She didn't want to go on the Maliboomer. I spent half a day (well, maybe more like half an hour) lying to her and trying to convince her that the ride was actually very mild and that it only appeared to be intense. So I talked her into going on it and we shot to the top and she turned to me and said. "I'm going to kill you!" (I had the camera ready and have a photo of that instant.) Ah, I love those precious father and daughter moments. It has to go, but a little piece of my heart will go with it. Rats! I wish I could go on it just one more time for memories sake, but it's not gonna happen.

I'd guess they could do this in less than a week. It probably makes sense to remove Maliboomer first before beginning the extensive construction and remodel of the dining court and Goofy's Sky School. Of all of the Pier remodeling projects, GSS is the one I'm most skeptical of. I loathe MM, and I don't see that this new GSS overlay is going to make a whit of difference. It's the proverbial "lipstick on a pig". While they're in the mood for ripping out tacky and vulgar carney rides, why not just save the expense of the GSS makeover and haul that mad mouse to wherever Maliboomer's going. A cement slab with some planters and benches would be an improvement over what's there now.

I remember before DCA even opened, I was walking by what would become 'Paradise Pier Hotel' and could see the cars cycling through the track -- peeking out over the berm on that first lift hill. I thought 'really? A mad mouse? Where you can peer over and look down West Street?. Surely, I'm mistaken, and they'll fix that egregious 'bad show.' Sure enough, when the park opened, and I took my first ride on 'Mulholland Madness' and got to the top of the first lift hill, I was able to look right out over the berm and onto West Street. Terrible. That, and the ability to see the Anaheim Convention Center and the power lines over the horizon of Pacific Wharf, and the 'rules' of 'Disney Theme Parks' seemed to be tossed to the wind. Maliboomer be gone!
Originally Posted By FerretAfros I'm guessing that something along the lines of gadzuux's description will be how they take out the Maliboomer. While they could do this at night, it would be very difficult to do in the dark, and there's no real way to get enough lighting up there. Will they be doing it during the day? That would probably mean that they would need to close Screamin', since there's no way to do it without having to move the pieces over the tracks. I guess they could do something like the TSMM construction, where they did construction in the morning, and ran the coaster in the afternoon, but that would be tough to do with how early it has to close for WOC. I guess it's good that they are doing it during the least busy time of the year, since there will be no easy way to do it!
