You think so? Maybe you can find a few cracks here and there at Disneyland, but DCA had the most obvious ones I've seen.

Well, they did just put some "new" movies in there. That's a big change considering they've been playing Steamboat Willie forever.

I was just hoping you had a link to a great new website, as I'm a sucker for juicy Disney gossip.

We just didn't know when, after talking about it for nearly a decade. It's nice we've got a date, and I'm going to make myself ride it one last time this month. I haven't been on that ride in about 7 or 8 years, and I won't miss it one bit.

Currently the monorail is a big offender if we still consider it more a ride than transportation. The trip along Harbor is as bad as it gets.

The Skyway was always a problem as well. I always enjoyed the Skyway (on a side note my last memory of it was New Years Eve drinking a bottle of champagne on it with a girl I had met while going to school at UCSB in 85/86).

What is considered acceptable viewing? When the doors open on TOT and you see the Matterhorn, is that fine? What about on Expedition Everest when you can see Epcot?

I enjoy seeing other parts of the park while riding MFW, and I always made sure to have a park view when riding Maliboomer.

I completely understand not wanting to see anything outside the park, but since we can all make our own choices on what to ride, we can avoid something that might take us out of the moment.

Ah ha! So, now -- along with 'you're thinking about it too much' in reference to 'attention to detail' issues, -- isual intrustions are now the responsibility of the guest?

    'Just don't look over there'

    Got it.

You ignored the rest of my comment.

What is acceptable and what isn't?

    Was Walt's Skyway acceptable?

    The current monorail?

    Expedition Everest?

Seeing the castle while on Splash Mountain?

Is it just seeing outside the berm?

Or seeing other lands while riding something?

Would Maliboomer be acceptable if the only view was into the DCA?

All of these things and more occur in every park ever made from day one. All are intrusions of one type or another.

Does not the guest decide in their mind whether its considered a problem or not?

    Is this not the case?

The same goes with attention to detail. I read a complaint today that said that DCA's bay didn't have an outlet to the ocean thus was a problem. Hmm, guess what, Rivers of America goes in a circle.

Where are the limits, or should there be any limits?

Funny how in the 5th image on that page you can see the old Grand Hotel. The power lines that are also visible which ironically can now be seen from inside DCA.

I guess my standards of what 'Disney Theme Park Design' are -- are higher.

When I see these old pictures from the first few weeks and years of Disneyland, my thought is 'yeah, okay 55 years ago, some visual intrustions were noticable, and in certain cases VERY noticeable.

But come on, the 'Disney Theme Park Design' Book was brand new, and with the changes in the park, and the experimentation happening on the fly, the developing and expanding of the Playbook was also changing on a daily basis.

Bottom line for me -- Some of visual intrusions from the old days of Disneyland simply wouldn't be (and aren't) acceptable today.

Certainly not with a brand new park in 2001, that you're designing from the ground up.

That's why I got so disgusted when I was walking through Paradise Pier and the Wharf area, and the power lines and Anaheim Convention Center were so clearly seen from inside DCA. To me, it was an egregious case of 'bad show'

Just as some of the early Jungle Cruise AA figures were in certain instances clunky and robotic, they've continued to upgrade the technology, and, we have come to expect much more advanced animatronics like Indiana Jones and Captain Jack Sparrow in 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'

Yes, there are blatant visual intrustions in early Disneyland -- yes, even in Walt's time.

But the 'Disney Theme Park Design' book has come a long way in 55 years. And you can't really go backwards.
