EC opened when I was 12 and a HUGE science fiction fan. I remember DEVOURING that three part opening day special that(IIRC)David Hutchison wrote for Starlog magazine. To say I was OBSESSED with the place was like saying Walt Disney was an innovator. In fact, when we landed in Orlando and got our car, we immediately drove to WDW(even though we were staying off property)and THE FIRST PLACE I drove to was Epcot. We hadn't bought our AP yet and we planned to go straight back to the hotel for a sleep(it was about 8:00am), but I just HAD to be near Epcot. Seeing SE in the distance and then(since it was so early and the lot was pretty much empty), being able to drive straight up to it.......WOW......the memories of how I felt that humid Florida morning are all coming back to me now. It was like a pilgrimmage for me......strike that, it WAS a pilgrimmage. To a part of my life way back in 1982, to a boy who marvelled at geodesic domes and glass pyramids and sleek monorails whooshing overhead. EC WAS that science fiction city where people flew overhead in cars and SCIENCE made ANYTHING possible. Epcot, even in its diminished 2001 state was one of my FAVOURITE parks in the whole world and I look forward to the day I will be able to return to it.<<<< Awesome story, Bob. And it's true, for the most part. Despite it's now huge aesthetic flaws, it's missing of integral parts of it's theme, and it's age, EPCOT is still amazing. It still is the most unique and bold statement created by WED. That feeling is still there. However...that feeling...back in 1993..and in 1994...and maybe even in 1996 was compounded and doubled, and undoubtedly, even more grand, and even more cohesive.

And you are surely correct in your synopsis of my Spirited character. I'd say your check's in the mail, but it would bounce like a rubber ball ...

I'm sure you could have picked up some flags at Walmart! I had better things to do on July 4th then spend it discussing when the Spidey ride will be ripped out of IOA and brought over to the MK! But just know the Spirit is always watching (consider him the NSA of the LP!) ... eyes and ears are always paying attention!
