To be fair to everybody else, you have to parse her words VERY carefully to come to that conclusion. This is the equivalent to some snake-oil company claiming that their ad didn't actually SAY that their Apple Cider Vinegar Wondergoop would cure cancer.

Well, we'll have to disagree here. If you're going to insist on accuracy (and rightly so), I'm going to insist on accuracy of what she actually said.

She said he belonged to this group - true. She said this group was anti-Semitic - also true. Now it doesn't automatically follow that every member of that group was therefore anti-Semitic, and I'm with you that that was the implication. But it's also not accurate to say that "she called Walt an anti-Semite." This is where we run into trouble. The whole speech is there, the whole context is there, so we might as well be accurate.

Right. A short paragraph pointing out where she was wrong makes sense. When your defense is close to hitting double figures in paragraphs, you may be overreacting.

"I think if you take Walt in context and Streep in context, they both look imperfect but basically fine."

    Right.

"Correcting mis-infomation, exaggerations, and outright lies is hardly over-the-top."

When the corrections are 10X as long as the original statement, it just might be.

Using old form letters and off color jokes by Ward Kimball hardly lends credibility to her statements.
It was a mean spirited and pointless attack, and I hope the Disney Company refuses to sign her to further contracts.

Perhaps even along with an acknowledgement of what she's trying to get at.

"Our heroes aren't perfect, and it's worth remembering the people who were hurt because of their imperfections."

I think that's all Streep's trying to say. It's a worthwhile message, just like it's worthwhile to keep the context of Walt Disney's shortcomings in mind.

She said "He formed and supported an anti-Semitic industry lobby."

    Is that statement true?

She said he formed it. Is that true? Because the way she said it, it is very easy to come away with the impression that he set out to form an anti-Semitic group. Was that his intent? Is that what he wanted?

    This, this, and this.

All the nitpicking going on here and meanwhile the most important point of this whole flap is being missed; why was she compelled to mention any of this stuff while presenting at an awards dinner in the first place? To me it doesn't matter if what she said was factual or not; her inappropriate behavior was a reflection of HER character, not Walt Disney's.
