But there needs to be more than just thrill rides and kiddie rides. Dark rides are an obvious family friendly attraction that everyone can enjoy. But there are some mild thrill rides that most people can enjoy, too. Cedar Point does have a few smaller height limit rides, but they need a few more, and some with even lower height limits that the entire family can enjoy, not just kiddie rides. They used to have a log flume with a very low height limit as long as the child rode with an adult. Their new Shoot the Rapids has a 46" height limit, so smaller kids who want to ride can't like they were able to on the old White Water Landing flume ride. They could mix up the new attractions every few years. One year a big thrill ride or coaster, another for a family friendly ride, another year for kiddie expansions. etc. They just need a little more variety.

Most of Cedar Point's theming is superficial at best, though some of the Frontier Trail is very nice. Knott's is a little more substantial, though Cedar Fair has "un-did" some of it over the years by adding the big coasters around them. Knott's is more family oriented still with a few thrill rides while Cedar Point is HUGE and loaded with thrill rides and coasters, and not so many family rides (though they do have a few).

Yes - the most recent additions are more of the Cedar Point high-octane thrill rides (next one is a 300-foot tower version of the old swinging chair ride) but they have kept some of the older more family-oriented attractions going - space limitations hve played havoc with the theming aspects of the park, particularly the Ghost Town where you now have a suspended steel coaster running directly overhead of a stagecoach ride. Also, not to be overlooked is Knott's penchant for offering deals and/or discounts which make them far more economical than DLR - for instance, they have a summer deal of an all-you-can-eat BBQ (which is usually very good) plus park admission for $44 or they have a "late rate" ticket for $25 from 4PM to midnight on Friday/Saturday nights - these are great deals compared to the standard Disney $75 one-park ticket.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Matt can accomplish as CF's new CEO. Now to begin the inevitable rumors regarding the future of Knott's new "creative team." Matt Ouimet is good friends with Tony Baxter. And as every Baxter fan knows, Tony loves The Farm. (Check out the foreword Baxter wrote for Chris Merritt's fabulous book, "Knott's Preserved," for conformation.) Tony apparently isn't working on any major project for WDI now. Plus, he turns 65 next February, at which time he can retire from Disney with full benefits. Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

Coasters are great, but just imagine if CP added some awesome family themed adventures within, too. That park sorely needs some dark rides!
