Universal tried, with feature films like Ron Howard's "Parenthood"(released in '89, a full year before USF itself opened to the public) and Joe Dante's "Matinee"(with scenes filmed on location in Key West). Disney shot their new MM Club(with Brittany and Christina) and other T.V. shows like "Thunder In Paradise" at their Florida studio, and of course, they had a working animation studio, which I miss. So, that's one of the things that definitly didn't quite pan out as planned with these Florida Studio/Theme Parks.

But you also can't force an industry to develop somewhere unless you make it very attractive for them. That's why places like Vancouver and even New Zealand have become big players in production and Orlando might as well be Hollywood (FLorida, that is) because folks aren't filming. And Disney has given up ... two of its soundstages are now TSMM and a third will eventually be an attraction. The last real taping I ever went to there was for the syndicated 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' in early 2006, and by that point they were very uncommon.
