Celebrity or not, you can't go around treating people this way. I wish more women went public about their abusers when it happens, rather than trying to stand by their man. Anyone who hits you does not, can not, truly love you.

Because I know Hollywood is filled with spoiled entitled people I don't do this with every transgression. Only the most hateful and unrepentantly criminal, child molesters most especially (I absolutely will not see a Victor Salva movie!).

Like becoming a monk and working with lepers. (And the death had nothing to do with Gibson, it was just karma playing tricks, in my opinion. His agent would have been the lone person to want to hold onto him.)

The money has already gone into his pocket for my purchase. And I can separate a character in a movie from it actually being Mel Gibson. I don't want to sound heartless and I'm not, and Ursula knows where I stand on domestic abuse, physical or otherwise, but I'll still be enjoying my Lethal Weapon collection. Mel Gibson is a dead man to me. But long live Martin Riggs.

I'm not pleased with what Woody did to Mia, but I love his films and refuse to toss my collection. Gibson is a jerk and probably always has been, but I enjoy his films and will continue to watch them on cable. (Pocahontas is the only one I own.) If I let the political beliefs of various actors influence my film-going decisions at the box office, I never would have seen most of Pixar's films, let alone films done by Walt. If the actor is a great performer but someone I vehemently disagree with regarding politics, I'll still watch their performances. Gibson is but one of those performers who fall into this category.
Originally Posted By DAR <<If I let the political beliefs of various actors influence my film-going decisions at the box office>> I think overall you're pretty safe there. lol Me I'd be watching Mel, Arnold, Sly, Bruce and Charlton Heston movies, which come to think of it might be okay. I like a lot of the work they've done. And in the case of the first I grew up on their movies.
