But don't forget many in the Jewish community weren't too pleased with Mel to begin with. Considering how they felt about the Passion of the Christ and his father being a Holocaust denier(sp).

As for the previous posts regarding Victor Salva and Roman Polanski, I think that's what has become celebrity culture in this country. Now most people couldn't tell you who Victor Salva is. Look at the circus' that became of the trials of Michael Jackson, OJ, Robert Blake. Each had there supporters, yet the crimes they were accused of are far worse than anything Gibson said, as despicable as his comments were.

Gee, you thought that didn't belong too?

Mel Gibson is a swine in my opinion. I've thought that for a long time. Driving drunk, abusing the police while spouting anti-semitism and then coming out with a canned apology don't affect me one bit.

But don't worry, Mel probably hates the gays too, even the ones who do his makeup on his films and decorate his Malibu mansion and give his poodles pedicures.

Someone told me that Disney has dropped his latest film ... anyone know if that's true or rumor?

I've heard the same thing. I'm not sure how Disney can even spin this into a positive.

    They can't.

But Bob Iger is Jewish (I think Mel would say Jews run Hollywood!) and many at the studios are. I think there's only so much a studio should take from its 'talent' whether it's an anti-semitic, God-wacko like Mel or a drug-using, alcoholic, narcisist party-girl like Lindsay Lohan.

They just aren't worth the trouble.

BTW, just saw a blurb on CNN said the project of Gibson's that was canned was a six-part miniseries for ABC about ... (drumroll) the Holocaust.

Gee, what a great topic for Mel.

I didn't ever know that DUI was a province of any particular party. Actually in liberal circles DUI is typically looked as being extremely irresponsible. I would assume that it is the same in most Republican circles.

The fact that you say "As for his DUI, so what?" is rather disturbing.

I'm not glad that Mel got caught a DUI. I am a little glad that he has shown his true colors to the world. In light of the fact that no one was harmed while he was behind the wheel, I do think what he said is as bad as what he did. Equally bad, I'd say. If he had crashed into someone, I'd say what he did was worse. But as it is, I think they're about equal. True, there are worse crimes in the world.

Considering that Mel thinks he "owns Malibu" and threatened to use his power to screw the cops for pulling him over, I don't think we should just shrug our shoulders and say "who cares? he's just a celebrity." He wanted to flex his celeb muscle, so let him get punched by it too.

I think I'm more offended by the fact that he was so threatening towards the officers, telling them how he was going to use all of his money and power to screw them. Talk about being a pompous jerk.

I can sort of see the reasoning in why they did that. If they had awarded him a Nobel Peace Prize, I would have concurred with an objection, but if the prize is for his work, which is separate from his personal life, I don't necessarily see a problem with that.

That being said, I have noticed in recent years that actors who I've previously really liked have taken certain positions in certain political and social situations that I strongly object to and that has affected my ability to see their past work again.

Oh, and I am not sure why I used the word furious...I was ticked off but didn't spend more than a few minutes being so. LOL

I am -- I'm glad they got him before he hurt something more than people's feelings. I feel sorry for his family. Having once been married to an alcoholic, I can sympathize with the fear, anger and embarrassment that they go through. Hopefully they are getting help too.

And I hope he gets more than a wrist slapping too. No one should be above the law.

As far as what he said -- I'm not surprised. A mean drunk is a mean drunk.

Who among us has not said or done something we regret? I know that a LOT of people in Hollywood have. But, I read Gibson's apology and he seems to honestly be reaching out to the Jewish community and asking for forgiveness and education. It would probably take less than one hand to count the number of stars who would do that, or the number of public officials for that matter.

We can all sit here and throw stones at this guy. That is easy. I make no apologies for him because the words he used and the manner in which he used them were grossly off-color. But, it his actions since this became public that I will be watching. And, so far, I think he has taken the appropriate steps.
