So is judging belly buttons an art or business? What's the benchmark for it? If my opinion is that my belly button is the very best there is, how much understanding or perspective is needed to make that a good idea?

By using that logic, the line between opinion and fact becomes ever-so-finer, which defeats the purpose of having an opinion anyway. If you're discussing politics with a friend, and you are both well-versed in the issues of which you are discussing, yet are on the opposite end of the spectrum, would that make your friend's ideas (or rather, opinions) bad?

No. An opinion doesn't have to be bad OTHERWISE its good. There can be two good opinions that differ. Their opinions so neither is right. Not all art critics agree, but being art critics they both have good opinions. A 5 year old might also have an opinion, I wouldn't say it is GOOD. Perhaps not BAD, but certainly not GOOD.

Not really. I think respectful disagreement and debate is the life of a good conversation.

When you start making things rude and assuming things about people, that's when I get offended. And for the record, I didn't even report the thread.

And granted, there has been rudeness on both sides...
