Your perception of Mexico reminds me of Americans who would visit us in Mexico City. May actually believed that they we lived in a dusty town where people rode around on burros. They were blown away at how modern it was. And just like you they thought everyone was poor. In this too they were surprised. And yes, there are more poor people in Mexico than the US. I never said that wasn't the case.

But I do believe there is a lot of poverty there, and people leave to try to escape it.
