Unlike the wand, the Hat is well designed to be a permanent structure and a (albeit strange) park icon. It's just in the wrong place. It has no business being there, but would work just fine in a number of other locations. The one that I know I'll get in trouble for liking: the Castle Cake. It was fun and silly, and made me excited for the 25th birthday. I was there on what I believed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and it didn't bother me one bit that the castle was decorated; it made it even more special. I really liked watching the inflatible elements sway in the breeze, and you could hear them rub together. It was the best kind of over-the-top-tacky fun.

Is the one at DHS still a pin shop?

And yes, it's still just a pin shop.

Originally Posted By FerretAfros The difference to me, despite what they said, was that the hat always looked like permanent construction. Take a look at it. The pin shop itself looks a little temporary, but the nice concrete platform it sits on seems like it was planned for the longterm. The wand was really nothing more than an interestingly shaped (which always amazed me from an engineering perspective) billboard. It was flat, and could really only be properly viewed from two sides. The structure was clearly exposed, and it just didn't feel like it belonged. Although the hat was in the wrong place, the construction of it felt like it belonged in a Disney park. I am hopeful though. In recent years, it seems like they've been setting up a stage in front of the Hat more and more. first it was just for Night of Joy. Then for occasional football/cheerleading/band-type events. Now it's for the duration of Star Wars Weekends, and heck, just whenever they feel like it. If they keep having this temporary stage in front of the 'temporary' hat, maybe they'll find a way to take out the hat, put in a more permanent stage, and restore the sightlines though that area of the park.
