As far as baseball being boring, sure its a slower paced game, but the intensity and the thought process that goes into it can really make your mind go nutz.

Take away all the stuff that the writers personaly have had to say bad about him cause he doenst care to deal with them and what do you have, A decent guy that cares about family and does not get in trouble. His homeruns have gone up the same % as the leagues though the years, so he hasnt "jumped" to all of the sudden #'s like the others, His body has grew larger but he has not done drugs to get it. Even when he was young in Pittsburgh he had one the hardest workout regimes in all of sports. Look at him through the years, There is not one year where he all of a sudden was huge the next season, he has grown steadily through the years. Being around gyms for many years, the gains he has made are not un-realistic at all. One tell tale sign is that steriods make your head larger, his has not changed, he wears the same size hat he did as a rookie.

So he appears standoffish but he really has taken more control of his life by being in control on his image and sponsorships. A regular player in the MLBPA could end up anywhere that the MLB is licensed like video games, baseball cards, bobbleheads or even organizations that the MLB supports but the player may not particularly support. So Bonds is in control of all that now for himself. A smark marketing move that has neted him larger endorsement contracts and autograph session feesl.

Not that he needs the money, but I can't help but think his unpleasant, prickly demeanor in the public eye hasn't cost him tons of potential endorsement deals. He isn't a good spokesman for himself (see his over-the-top defensive rant earlier this year as just one example), so it's a question as to how good a spokesman he is for other people.

Also his signed memorabilia which he sells on his website is sold at a higher premium than other current HOFers. Also because he creats a rarity with his signature, he can set his prices even higher and collectors buy it up like crazy. Smart move in my eyes.
