But I do believe the point is valid and the post should have stayed. One thing had/has nothing to do with the other and I don't believe just because someone died that we should have a moritorium on criticism of TDO. But maybe I'm mistaken? Opinions?

And as to the point I am currently reading about guests being a distraction, while I can understand maybe stopping it for a few weeks ... the idea of eliminating it is absurd. No guest riding in the cab of a WDW monorail has ever been injured. Have you watched what a distraction guests are on buses? C'mon, let's be serious. If they eliminate the practice it'll be for PR or because some idiot politician with power threatens the Reedy Creek charter over it.

Now I *do* have a HUGE issue if the MOD for 'rails was off site having dinner... I wouldn't care if they were in their office eating (cause it has to happen) but OFF SITE?!? -em

I love Disney as much as anybody; however safety is nothing to take lightly.(not saying Disney does I have never felt unsafe at a Disney park. Would they ever shut down WDW for that probably not. Some stated how the buses are accident waiting to happen; just think if the monorail was off line for an extended period of time and the buses ( and drivers) had to take up the slack more pressure and more stress what could happen then. Just stating my option, I love Disney and want everyone who goes to Disney to be safe and have a stress free vacation all my comments are out of Love for my 2nd home WDW.

Compare this to Austin Wuennenberg, who died AT his post. Having said that, what is the defined role of Central when giving such clearance? Are they supposed to verify independently that the switch has been moved (and if so, how)? Or, are they just confirming that a) the monorail is supposed to be switching beams at that time and b) that they heard Maintenance confirm that the switch had been made?

Central is basically the "God" of the 'rail world telling them where and when to go, coordinates all movements, coordinates with maintenance etc.. The only switch that is actually visible from a platform is the end of the Epcot Spur (in front of the TTC) the start of the Epcot spur (the now infamous one) and the Express/Resort/Barn Spur are all not visible from a platform.

So, I'll go back to what I said earlier: it seems to me that there should be some specific, defined procedure that the driver takes after traversing the switch to verify that they are on the right beam, beyond general situational awareness. Does such a procedure exist?
Originally Posted By -em >> If Central was off site, I blame the accident fully on him,<< I don't- Now they do hold a large chunk of responsibility but the same thing would've still happened if he/she would've been at the MK platform or even on the Resort side of the TTC both acceptable places to be (note: not best- acceptable) If the switch was NOT thrown by Maintenance and then communicated as a completed task then *they* are the ones responsible. Word is law in 'rail land.
