How about some statistics on the number of people who have been run over by light rail systems? I've seen a number of headlines about people getting run over by the San Diego trolley since I moved here in 2006. I expect the number is higher than 4.

You know, deaths per million, as other vehicles are counted, such as cars and trucks....

Heck, someone was killed on the Disneyland Monorail, but it was the guests fault by climbing onto the track.

    From Wikipedia...

    >>In 1966, Thomas Guy Cleveland, 19, of Northridge, California, was struck and killed by the monorail, which then dragged him 40 feet down the track. This occurred on Grad Nite while he was trying to sneak into the park by climbing onto the monorail track.<<

How many of the LRT deaths were planned suicides, or pedestrians and drivers that ignored the lowered flashing warning gates, or doing other stupid things, like jumping the safety fence?

Both riding a LRT and a Monorail are very safe modes of travel, but as with anything in life, there is some risk.

4 miles really does seem silly...the train wouldn't even get up to any sort of decent speed for that distance I would imagine.

The maglev in Shanghai, however, is only 18 miles I think. That, too, seems weird to me, but they built it nonetheless.

@ $60 million/mile without overruns Maglev is in the ballpark. Sure they don't need to do it but as someone else aptly posted, they didn’t need to do the monorail (or the park for that matter). I’m sure some would agree that it would be more of a showpiece/talking point of technology that harkens back to the original Tomorrowland concept. Ton’s of free press worldwide acclaim and examples of how Disney thinking is moving back toward the cutting edge. I’d be much more willing to ride the Maglev from the airport (with family and luggage), for say $10 to $20 a head then try the same ride with the non-rush hour LR crowd.

I don’t know, maybe some would be just as satisfied with a Winnie the Poohed Light rail system?

Disney might expand their monorail to a third park once they build it. But I suspect if Anaheim itself were to build something, then it would probably be some sort of trolley system that could then interconnect with other regional trolley systems.

There would be a transfer/transit center connecting it to the monorails.

That is what I think the most likely thing to be done is.

Next would be the idea of Anaheim building on its own monorail system. But this would likely be different than what is in Disney now, because those trains are really kind of small. They are totally nonstandard to even other monorail systems. But they could do this.

That is if they build anything. They could also just use speciality bus lines. Why have a trolley stop at the Pond when nothing is going on there, for instance. So busses are far more flexible.
