I was told that they reverted back to the old policy where you went from cab #1 to cab #6 when switching beams. Also a CM on the ground had to observe the switch. Was I told wrongly about this?

It is pretty common in the corporate world than when there is a serius wreak/crash they retire that vehicles designation. The news co. that I worked for had one of their live trucks involved in a crash (not our drivers fault) where the driver was seriously injured and they retired that vehicle designation when they replaced it.
