Are they talking about a stand-up coaster now? That would make so much more sense to me (as a door), and could be unique.

I've no idea as I've not read the article but there hasn't been a major stand-up coaster in years. Both B&M and Intamin made them but I don't think there has been one installed for 15 years or so (Six Flags have moved a fair few around and rebranded them).

    Stand-up isn't particularly family-friendly either - I'm not sure that would fly.

I've only ridden stand-ups with the track below. Imagine a stand-up with the track above (as in the first Monsters.) Perhaps two people standing side by side and maybe on each side of the door. Not enough side-to-side swing to freak kids out, but enough to make it fun.

That could be a unique coaster. The speed could be moderate, thus making it family friendly, but the uniqueness of the design, and of course, the visuals, make it appealing to adults also.

Ah. Not heard that one before. I can't see how that would work either. Anything remotely door-like would block out a lot of the field of vision for those riding behind. Plus you would still need some sort of body/seat moulding for the guest to sit in/ride against. I can't see how that would work (and I've not seen any mock-ups of the conveyance to suggest that is happening).

I gather Bob Weis was at the meeting which suggests that it was either about HKDL/SDL (he oversees both) or he was being used as a tour guide as he was executive producer for the DCA expansion. He doesn't hold the DLR portfolio any more.

Of course, it's highly unlikely. But hey - as mawnck said elsewhere... discussion board.

I'm not sure what Bob Weis looks like ... but here's a photo where some people are jumping the gun - And assuming, the presence of these execs (including Iger) means - Something big is shaping up for the DLR:

    <a target="blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://micechat.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/pic14.jpg">http://micechat.com/wp-content...ic14.jpg</a>

My hunch .. is a walk through the DLR .. just for the sake of a walk through the DLR, while they carry-on about other things.

And even if they are pondering future possibilities for the DLR .. they are way off - and like so many other projects - things can change. As they often do, anyway!

    No.

There are fans who PREFER that vision. I happen to be one of them.

And I also think that switching to a Star Wars theme would suck eggs. Almost everything about Star Wars has sucked eggs since 1984.

Tomorrowland remained largely vacant space until 1959. Of course space is largely vacant, so perhaps it was just a reflection of Walt's genius. Yup... that MUST be it!!

However, I give you my word this is a VERY good source who I get to have a short chat with once in a blue moon.
    I asked a few questions.

    1. I haven't heard anything from inside Disney since its release, are they pleased with MU's performance so far?
    2. I gave the information we received on that miceage update and asked how accurate it was.
    3. I've always been curious about how much Disney cares about fan site approval on future rumored projects.

I never get specifics and try not to even ask, but I do get some insight.

He told me that yes, these projects are being worked on, but that they are just some of MANY projects being worked on for DLR at this time and are in NO way set in stone or have been greenlit at this point.

Again, take this for what its worth, but I give you my word its a VERY good source.

Height balloons, as far as I can tell, mean nothing other than "Okay... IF we were to build something this high, what would that do for the sightlines from point A, point B and point C." It doesn't necessarily mean something's close to getting the green light.

    And this contradicts MiceAge, how?

I must admit that I'm struggling to grasp how that might work - but then I'm no engineer. Dark ride elements to coasters seem to work best when the vehicle is stationary and the action is above your head (like the Yeti animation on Everest and the mine explosion at HKDL's Runaway Mine Cars). The final Yeti worked well just due to the sheer size and scale of him. The two other scenes in the HKDL coaster also work - the first is at a relatively slow portion of the coaster and the third is as the brakes are gunning.

However if you have to disguise the conveyance then you are into some restricted fields of vision. The original door coaster had a mocked up seat configuration sitting in the model shop for ages. A lot of the adornments hung on the vehicles were scream canisters that snuggly fitted around hydraulics etc.

I can't remember a single occasion where a height test was carried out for a specific approved attraction. They are almost always done in blue sky conceptualisation to determine what is possible.

I've not seen photos of the recent one at DCA but I'm struggling to understand the point. Those HPB soundstages are big ugly boxes that are visible from the esplanade. There isn't any way to get around that unless you want to bother dressing them up like the IJA show building.
