She wanted to go to WDW but I said it would be way too hot during the summer, but that we could go to DL. She spent time there every day checking weather.com and pointing out to me how WDW was about 10 degrees cooler. She spent most of the rest of her time complaining about how miserable she was from the heat and how the DLH wasn't half as nice as The Boardwalk and that she missed Epcot. NOT a very successful trip.

Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "The DL monorail is pretty useless, but it just wouldn't be DL without it." I would have never thought I would get used to the Matterhorn without the Skyway, but I did. Likewise, DL would seem "different" without monorails, but I think wouldn't take long to get accustomed to it. "All the windows were open - the fact that they had opening windows lead me to believe they were not air-conditioned." I read somewhere that the DL monorails can't be outfitted with air conditioning because the weight would be too much for DL's scaled down monorail beams. Not sure if this is true, but I guess it makes sense.
Originally Posted By FerretAfros I read that the air conditioner units wouldn't really fit in the scaled down vehicles without reducing passenger space, would have weight issues (like Hans said), and would overload the electric lines. Since the track passes over itself with very little clearance, they couldn't mount them on the roofs, and there's no space for them in the existing mechanical areas. Plus, they would add a lot of weight and electric demand to a system that simply wasn't intended to include those features. Similar 'improvements' adding sound to Space Mountain caused stress fractures in the track, causing the entire ride to be rebuilt a few years later (1996-2003) When they built the 'new' Monorail trains from the old chasis, the original windows only tilted out a few inches, like what you'd see in the back of a minivan. After a few days of testing, it became clear that these lawyer-approved windows wouldn't provide adequate ventillation on all but the coolest summer days, and they were one of the many changes that had to be hastily applied before the new trains went into full service. >>At least if it stopped near Trader Sams it would be of some use!<< Until the creation of DTD, that Monorail stop was designated for the Disneyland Hotel. Of course they had a few low-slung buildings in the area between the towers and 'rail, but the majority of the hotel was just as far away. It's no more than a 7 minute walk from the station, if you're going really slowly (realistically, 3-4 minutes), so it certainly seems like it's plenty useful now

Tasha would have been delighted to find that there was a cocktail bar conveniently located right at the DLH Monorail station as soon as you stepped of the platform: <a target="blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/bananaphone5000/Gorillllas4/1966_MonorailRoom.jpg">http://img.photobucket.com/alb...Room.jpg</a> The "fabulous" interior: <a target="blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://magicalhotel.blogspot.com/2008/04/monorail-bar.html">http://magicalhotel.blogspot.c...bar.html</a>

At night, light the bottom to look like they are floating. If you want to be cheap about it, you don't even have to redo the track. Maybe add some Star Wars scenaries, and you're done.

I don't know if we will see walls on Oct. 1st or not, but construction of some sort will begin On that day. I wonder if there will be an official announcement before construction begins.
