In Texas, they don't know they are ignorant. Arrogant beyond belief. And look down on education. A place where Joe the Plumber is a hero.
Here they would say, "Son, go git yourself educated, or shut the hell up. Your ig'nernce is embarrassin' us."
I feel sorry for a place that's to stupid to know its stupid.

Yeah, we got the humidity. But so do many many other states. Ever go to WDW in the summer? And here in Dallas, we're well beyond the bible belt days, and I haven't seen cousins get married in at least 6 months or so. But I do live in a dry city, and have to drive all of about 4 miles to buy booze. We had an issue on the ballot about it, but I haven't heard yet if it passed or not.

No, your right, that's why I already apologised. And I will do it again. I really didn't mean for the post to sound as harsh as it did. So I am sorry.
I think I am suffering "Palin Frustration". I have very little tolerance in supporting ignorance. And I don't think ignorance is an American Virtue.

I've seen a fair amount of our country, and I've sure seen a lot more good than bad. That goes for every State I've been to. I really never felt the need to personaly put down a person for where they, and their family lived, their religious affiliation or who their political party chose to run for an office. Once again a thread has turned sour for absolutely no reason.

Indeed, which is the lesser evil? You also left out the Rattle Snakes in California.

Another reason I like the UK (the weather is not great, but nothing too severe, and no real critters either).

But yep Dan, I was kind of joshing, there are only a few states in the US where I like the weather sadly. But humidity really gets to me. Anywhere you get out of the shower and then feel sticky like you needs another shower within 10 mins is not to my liking.

my comments were somewhat satirical, I probably should have included a wink ;-)

But yes, I experienced a Southern Baptist bible school in a dry county in Texas. Met cousins who were married and not much older than me at the time. And we experienced a tornado, a tick problem, learnt how to shoot before fishing because of the water moccasins, and even experienced a burning cross and KKK activity.

Also, my mom (mainly cherokee and Sicilian blood - so she is dark) was treated very differently, and we experienced left over Jim Crow holdovers in Texas, Louissiana and Mississippi.

I have travelled far and wide across the world since then (across 5 continents) and I can honestly say I have little desire to return. Maybe we were unlucky, but I seem to have a real problem with unlucky visits in the former confederacy.

But my concerns about weather and critters won't have. I am like Dr Jones, I hate snakes. I am relieved the UK has very few indiginous snakes (I have seen one in 22 years - but many across the US, including being bitten by a rattler when I was 10).

Luckily I was 1 1/2 years old when I left my birth state, Arkansas, so have no bad memories of it at all. However, I'll take Florida winters over Massachusetts winters any day. Walking & driving don't mix well with ice. And I'm a coward when it comes to ice.

Hmmm, yes, a Fla winter is preferable to most (except maybe California and Hawaii), but I would rather have a Massachusetts summer to a Floridian one.

Thus the seasonal migration of retired new yorkers.

I lived in FL for three years, and I have to admit the fist summer I was impressed with how hot and humid it was. After that it really wasn't a big deal.
I can tell you that I would spend more time outside playing in the heat of a FL summer than I will in the 10" of snow I have in my front yard right now. I am already sick of winter and its not even winter yet.

I've never lived in Florida, but based on my travels there I have to disagree with you a bit. I find that the humidity and heat are very unpleasant from around May through around mid-September or so. And even when the sun goes down, the humidity never does, and you might have a day with highs in the high 90's and lows in the high 80's. I try my best to NOT visit Florida from May through September. And I live in Dallas, where we have some knowledge of heat & humidity, but it just ain't anything like a Florida summer!
