Standing on Main Street and seeing, basically, what Walt Disney once saw is nothing short of incredible. Some of the attractions, though sharing the same name as the ones in WDW, are different enough to cause your mouth to drop open. Some are not as good, some are way better.

I never really thought I would ever get to California and Disneyland but when the opportunity presented itself, I went for it and I am so glad I did.

When I made my reservations they sent me a Disneyland Brochure that showed Walt Disney all alone walking out of the castle on a rainy day. At is incredible to be able to stand in that exact spot 50 years later. At the risk of sounding slightly touched, you could almost feel like you were there with Walt.

    If you get the chance....go!"

AMEN to that, man! I actually didn't have much interest in visiting Disneyland until I joined LP. I was always a WDW girl. But now, I hold APs for both and while I love going to WDW, I'll gladly take a quick weejkend trip to DL, or a full 8 days like I did this summer around the LP big meet.

Man, nothing in the world comes close to the feeling you get when you're at Disneyland and think "Wow, Walt walked here."

Oh, and for the record - I enjoy DCA, too! I think it's a fine little park! :)

All of us should just be happy that there is a DL and an a WDW MK and that they are different enough for us to enjoy them in our own way.

Sure, I grew up a few miles down the road from Disneyland so it was the park I knew most as a kid - but when my kids got older and we made a bunch of trips to WDW while they were in their early teens, we had a great time there.

So relax and simply enjoy the variety of DL and WDW's MK - hey, if you want something different head over to DLP - I got to stop over there during a business trip and DLP is a great "MK" type of park as well, different enough from the others to enjoy as a unique experience.

see Labuda, I agree with you. I have only been to DCA twice, but right now it is comparable to the Studios in Florida - overall experience wise for me.

You know you really like to totally ignore statements you directly quote. Is there something wrong with making millions of visitors to the parks happy? Is it wrong to make money as you make them happy? If you say so I think you need a reality check.

Disney has lost stock value recentlly, but it's starting to go back up again and that's good. The only people who seem to really think Disney is in mortal peril quality wise are the uber fans, and they may be right - but the masses of vistors to Disney parks every year don't seem to think so. I agree some of the magic is gone from the parks but it is still a great great fun place and it still is magical and that's what guests see.

I think you're probably some disrguntled former employee of the Disney Company who got canned and now it's your life mission to badmouth the Mouse on this forum with all that spare time you now have.

I'm sorry that there have been those events you listed have occured but sometimes bad things are necessary for the greater good, especially in business terms (as in being profitable being the greater good than keeping more employees than the company can support). But Disney's business is making people happy and I'd say the greater good is having a Disney that maybe doesn't make some people as happy as it used to than not having a Disney at all.

FWIW, the hotels on Harbor last week were packed with people from:
    Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon,
    Washington, North Cal, etc.

Both parks had very healthy midweek crowds. I don't think that DL has become invisble in any way. Now if you live on the east coast, then its another matter. Why fly 5 hours to LA when WDW is a short flight or even a day's drive?

But we have to be realistic. DLR will never compare to WDW as a tourist destination. That said, my brother (who has not been to DL in 10 years) was impressed with what he saw. He felt that it was now a legitimate resort, and that the future 3rd gate will make it even better.

Perhaps DLR's biggest weakness is that it is in the middle of a super huge metro area. Which means that there are no longer "off-season" weekends any more. I almost wish we had done our family reunion last week at WDW, because DLR was so crowded. The only good days were Tue-Thur.

Huh - DL is in the top 3 of Disney Parks in terms of draw per year and DCA is now up in the 5-6M visitors per year.

Sure, DLR is far smaller in size than WDW resort and has two fewer parks - but that doesn't mean it can't compare with WDW on the basis of a 2-3 day resort experience where going to theme parks is the primiary purpose, particularly if you live anywhere within 2.5 - 3 hours flight time to California.

Sounds like just another statement made by someone with a WDW East-coast bias ........

WDW is the main, if not only, reason people go to central Florida. DL on the other hand, is usually only a component of most tourists reason for visiting southern CA.

Just to be clear, I am not saying WDW is better, just that it inherently has a higher percentage of genuine tourists as opposed to local, regular park visitors.

Don't assume. I've only been to WDW once. I'm also a DLR AP.
