Don't feel too bad VB, even when waiting most of the time it is hard to even see the video. It was a great preshow for the 90's, but I agree, misses the mark in 2011.

Expo, I understand that the length can be changed. I REALLY don't see that happening on the addition side, which is what your scenario would call for. If anything, I see them trimming the timing down just a tad. Enough time to load a theater, which isn't much more than there is now.

But in all actuality... why not just bump up the time frame a few years? Go from 1964, to 1982, to now, to future.

Keep the song, loose the revolving scrims, those have never looked good, and keep the show current.

Or, heck, just talk entirely about the future, in different subject areas. Who knows.

    Just keep it fresh.

Unfortunately, that costs money. It's the same reason why scientifically out of date dinos on the Disneyland railroad will never be upgraded.

    Interesting..
Let's compare TDL with the MK..
    TDL:
-just redid the POTC to overlay with the last Pirates movie, and added an exhibit to the queue.
-Haunted Mansion changes between normal and Nightmare overlays every year since 2005. The MK's Mansion does not.
-IASW has the Xmas overlay. The MK one does not.
-Snow White and Peter pan rides are more similar to their counterparts at DLP and DL, while the MK ones are basically unchanged for over a decade.
-Splash Mountain is the longest, largest versiona dn features a few unique scenes, arguably the best version of them all.
-Space Mountain received a cosmetic refurbishing, making it more edgy and dark, while the MK's Space MT got celing over the queue and stupid sound effects.
-A more refreshed Jungle Cruise voyage..while the MK one remains home to ugly mildew stains.
-Hunny Hunt, technically one of the most advanced rides ever created by Disney, while the MK is just another kiddy dark ride with cheap animated figures.
-A vastly improved Astroblasters over the Ranger spin at the MK.
-3 Country Bear Jamboree show versions every year when seasons require the change. Original one at the MK for the past few years.
-Big Thunder. Highly refreshed with more advanced effects and animated scenes, as opposed to the many effects turned off of taken out of the MK version.
-Monsters Inc...an ride attraction heavy with AAs, that is more fun than sitting around looking at a huge TV and listening to stale jokes as is the case at the MK.
-Cinderella Castle Hall at TDL.. a walk thru attraction where you do not have to spend money or make reservation 5 months ahead of time to see.

I could go on and on.. and as an added plus at TDL, the live entertainment alone would be worth the $80 you pay for a day at the MK, plus the TDL park is very well staffed, extremely cleaned, manicured and kept in such pristine condition, it looks like it opened its doors for the first time the day before yesterday... which is something I can not say for the MK. Sorry.

I knew I'd be impressed with TDL, but I didn't ever think it would truly blow my mind in such a way. I felt like a kid again and not in the smarmy deceptive WDW hype way, but in the way I felt when I was at WDW as a kid in the 70s and 80s (early-mid 90s too).

But honestly, I get a lot of that still in Anaheim ... and I love Paris's attractions, if not its upkeep (much better of late) ... and say what you will about me, maybe it's the joy of being able to be a temporary 'local at HKDL, but I just greatly enjoy the vibe in that little park on Lantau.

WDW just has been bled dry. It started with the massive buildout under Eisner in the 90s and has continued to this day.

I'm tired of visiting a place and always thinking about 'what used to be' ...

Ride was great in its time as example of AA technology (I saw the original at NY Fair in 1964 - now it seems like a bit of a relic.

Always thought that COP concept would have been a great one for a Star Wars Revue: 1st set would be Moss Eisely bar scene; second would be Vader/Luke duel at Bespin; third would be Jaba's lair; fourth would be final confrontation with Emperor/Vader/Luke

Think proactively, update it and fix it, it'll be fine.

Don't stomp on a beautiful piece of history.

I love the COP. I believe that on my honeymoon I got the very last copy of the sheet music for "Now is the Time." The CM had to rummage thru some things and finally found one and told me that it was the last one in the park. He said he hadnt seen one in weeks but he dug because it was our honeymoon and he wanted to do something nice.

When I was in mgmt at the MK I would stop in and ride COP all the time...show quality I would tell my boss. I can now admit that one day another mgr and I sat and ate lunch on the patio in the final scene and whenever a car with guests would rotate in we would sit very still and make believe we werent real...what can I say...we were young and Disney freaks. For several months my office was in the old GE lounge at COP and every couple of minutes you would hear the building rotate...it was my favorite office.

All that to say that unless Disney is willing to redo and rethink the show I think it is time to retire it. I am not a fan of the new show. I dont like the script, I dont like the actor portraying Father who seems like he is rushing through the show and I dont like that things I know are still on stage no longer work. I hate that a Disney classic has been allowed to just sit there and be unloved by the company.

Maybe that should be the new theme. Do a Carousel of Regression. Go back in time and leave the audience with a happy ending.

    j/k

One of them would come into my office some days and sit and tell me Walt stories. My boss was a tough guy to work for at times but he ALWAYS put the guest first. ALWAYS. It was not unusual to find myself and a park VP hopping cars at Grand Prix so that we could open another lane of cars to decrease wait times. If it was noon and you were in your office he would radio you and ask you why you werent in the park. I learned alot from him. Of course he would have killed us if he knew about sitting on the COP stage.

Since I am reminiscing endulge me on one more. Another mgr and I would often climb to the top of the 20k building, take our shoes off and hang our feet in the pool that the water came out of to create the waterfall effect where the subs entered the show building. We would do this at firework times and we would sit cool our feet and watch the fireworks. One night he said to me..."It doesnt get better than this." He was right.
