Outside of the cleaver way they were able to get the mouth to work and the ear removal effect, the animatronics used in Potatohead are not really special or technologically unique.

Not really like the one in the movie, if you ask me.<<

Remember we are only witnessing the testing phase of the AA at this point.

So, if they don't realize it's interactive, and that Potato Head is saying specific stuff, how does that impact the guest experience...

    anyway, nitpicky, but..."

From the looks of it, doesn't the queue wind right past him? At this point, guests have to wander by and check him out inbetween construction walls. I think he'll have a more captive audience once the attraction is open.

Oh, and I did notice some subtle movements in his hands and feet. Sure, he's not as expressive as a human AA, but it's a giant Mr. Potato Head, he can't be! To me, it literally looks like the toy came to life. The projection eyes don't bother me too much. I liked that his fingers moved around a bit. He can make various hand gestures, I'm sure, and his feet were tapping along to the music, which was a cute touch. I'll be curious to see how well he interacts once the CM's get the timing down.

Watch a show on video or movie is a bit different than live. So what looks good live, won't look good on video.
If you ever watched a video some shot of a Broadway play for example, you'd probably say the actors exaggerate so much with so much movement - yet when you were there live, it looked great.

Same with PH, a lot of exaggerated movements on video, but when you're there at about 30 feet away, he looks awesome...

And now it makes sense why we haven't seen any projections on AA's outside until now. The lights from the projectors are piercingly bright. We could see them over the tops of the construction walls (not much was visible), and all the way across the lagoon, but there was still no mistaking the bright lights. It was a little eerie, and I think it will probably stick out even more once the construction walls are down and they put in more of the little lights everywhere. Would it be that hard to make a dim "night mode" on the eyes, so they don't blind people across the park with him?

Of course though, who knows, maybe the lights in his eyes were fully on on purpose for work they might be doing with it. This is Disney, if they can't dim the lights on one of their AA's, I'm surprise they got the thing built in the first place ;).
