The newer rides are certainly smoother, but there's a certain "charm" that the "hand designed" rides of this era posesses. Thanks for the support vbdad! It's good to know that there's others who feel the love for the "old" Space Mountain design out there, too! To me, Space Mountain is the Magic Kingdom's Matterhorn. Perhaps a bit "rough around the edges", but still a lot of fun to ride! Sometimes nostalgia can be a good thing! Side note for vbdad: I totally agree with most of your assessment of the rides at Six Flags Great America. Personally, I like the Viper wooden coaster there (a virtual, but smoother clone of the Coney Island Cyclone). I was also extremely happy to see the wonderful "Little Dipper" from nearby Kiddieland in Melrose Park be relocated to SFGAm. Kudos to them for preserving this classic wood coaster for beginners!!! Kiddieland was such a fun little park. It's a shame it couldn't have lived on in some capacity...

The reason -- COSTCO made a huge offer for the land to move into land not usually available-- they might as well be Walmart.... greed always seems to win
