But I'll bet you know at least the names in the call list on your phone.

It shouldn’t be too tough to get though. I’m sure a quick call to a family member or friend, or even your cell phone company, would solve that problem in a jiffy. I would even let them use my cell is they seemed genuine. I really hope you understand why I did this. Considering the number of cell phones we received and the number of scammers out there (believe me, I’ve caught more than a few), we had to be very careful regarding property. The last thing I would want to do is aid in the theft of your property and I’m sure you wouldn’t want your cell-phone to be given to the first random person who claims it. This method of matching the phone with its proper owner is almost fool-proof and is why I used it. In fact, most guests truly reclaiming their lost phones actually seemed very grateful I was being thorough.

Yes, asking for a couple individuals from the address book is another great way. But I had a few people go “weird†on me about “prying†into the personal information, so unless the guest specifically mentions it, I didn’t go that route. But most everyone seemed fine with the “make it ring†method which became my method of choice. Some people, I’ve found, can be very strange about their cell phones. lol

I had a friend who left her phone on the table of a restaurant as she went up to the counter to get a napkin (Which was only a few feet a way), when she came back the lady at the table next to her had swiped the phone (her phone was sitting on the table next to the other ladies purse so it was obvious who had taken it). My friend tried to stay calm and asked for the phone back and the lady refused saying it was hers. The manager came over and as soon as they open the phone and saw the picture of my friend and her husband as the wallpaper he insisted the lady give it back. Then the lady who had just tried to steal the phone in broad daylight yelled at my friend and said she was going to file a lawsuit for harrasment! At that point my friend and I just started lauging it was so ridiculous. The nerve of some people!

Anyway, glad your story had a happy ending at least!

Finally at the end of the day I gave one last effort and went to lost and found, and someone had turned it in. It was really the greatest thing and showed that there are good people.

As we were walking past the hub Lil Thunder stopped and said "oh no" and ran back towards AL, I followed realizing she left something, saw here there asking if anybody found her purse. We were gone literally less than one minute and the same people who were sitting next to us the whole time claimed "nope never saw a purse" DD solicited a few CMs who looked with flashlights as she panicked because all her money, cell phone, digital camera, and personal items were in that purse. I said "it's gone honey, I'm sorry, lets report it to lost and found, if a CM found it, they will turn it in" So we reported it, all the while Lil Thunder was bummed and in a panic.

Part of that misery was the fact that I went into parental mode and lectured her about taking care of valuable items and being responsible... yada yada yada. [in retrospect, I'm sure that's that LAST thing she wanted to hear] her best friend [aka almost a foster sister] began calling DD's cell while were were leaving. While we were on the tram back to car after closing, someone answered her cell phone, luckily it was a CM who said she found the purse and was going to turn it as soon as she closed her store said she found it out near the restroom. She actually arranged for security to let me back in shortly after park closing to retrieve it, of course Lil Thunder was very happy all was in tact. Frankly, I thought it was forever gone.

A year ago one weekend I took my cell out and placed it in the drink tray of my car before going into Church as I always do, because I have no need for a cell phone in church [frankly nobody does IMO] A while after we'd left church I realized that my phone was missing, I couldn't remember if it might have fallen out or if I'd even locked the doors or what?

The following day I was in the dumps about it, all of my business contacts were in that phone, I felt lost without it. My wife and DD had went to my in-laws as I stayed home, my daughter called home to tell me that she called my phone a few times and someone answered. She explained that the phone they had was her dad's, they said "nope not anymore it isn't.. mine now ha ha" I asked her to send a text message stating simply, lost phone, will pay large reward if returned and left my home phone as a contact. Within an hour someone called and asked if I'd lost a phone, I said I had. I asked if they were calling to return it, they said some kids around their neighborhood was trying to sell it to him and he took it away and that he wants to do the right thing and return it. I expressed gratitude and asked where I could meet him, he gave me an address [which was directly behind our church] it was the same apartments that our church/school used to have problems with when DD was younger. I said I'd be there in about an hour, but I ended up driving over there within a few minutes and saw a young guy sitting on a curb talking on my phone, I identified that he had my phone against his ear then I waited nearby, while waiting I could not help but overhear him say that talked to the owner whom he took the phone from the car and he expected a cash reward shortly. I was now quite disgusted but kept my cool, I approached him and explained who I was, I simply took the phone from his hand saying "oh wow that's great you found my phone.. thanks" He then tried to negotiate a reward amount and I said "I just overheard you say that you stole this from my car while it was parked at the church, I could be a jerk and report the crime to police [whose station is literally one block around the corner]or I could walk away glad that I found my phone, and he could walk away glad that he is not talking to the police.

Now before you judge me as a jerk, I had thoughts of of negotiating some kind of reward prior to me going there, but then I heard him boast about how he thought he was getting over on me and the thought of him sneaking into my car while I was in church caused me to change my mind.

The attitude at the lost and found left me to believe that it would never come in. While at lost&found, a man came looking for his cell phone and nothing had been turned in.
I think the days of assuming people will do the right thing when given the chance are long gone. It's a sad note on society.

They gave it up for lost, but we suggested they try the lost and found at the security office. Lo and behold, it was there, intact will little Jenna's money still in it. Our friends almost fainted! They were truly amazed that the purse was turned in.

But I agree that I would never expect anything to be returned in SoCal or any major metro area.
