I remember that POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl got some lukewarm reviews, too. I loved the original Natinal Treasure, even with all of its 'hokeyness'. You just have to suspend disbelief and have a good time, which is what I did the first time I saw the first film. Repeated viewings showed more clues that I missed before, and made the 'treasure hunt' even more fun.

Something tells me that I might like this new one too. Hopefully, I'll get to find out for myself this weekend!!!

Maybe it's in the Director's Cut.

A sequel is obviously on the radar with the whole "Page 47" scenario.

They don't. There have been plenty of sequels that have gotten generally good reviews over the years (and basically every film has at least some fans and detractors). This year alone, for example, "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Live Free Or Die Hard" come immediately to mind as examples of sequels that got mostly positive reviews.

I haven't seen either of the "National Treasure" films, but I would imagine that most of the negative reviews were reflections of those critics honest reactions to the film. Let's also not forget that the first film was hardly critically acclaimed either...
