I guess with stadium seating and the ginormous screen up there, it just doesn't bother me to be in the back of the house (as long as I'm semi-centered).

You can still see the screen just fine, after all. And the surround sound leaves NO seat unaffected, right? ;)

plus it's an ideal place to crack open a beer and some tequila and maybe a Planet Hollywood take-out burger with a crinckely bag of fries without pissing off everyone around you... ;)

<---did I mention beer and tequila and take-out food are all totally legal and okay in all Japanese theaters?

Learning Sydney area theaters is an experience. (I still prefer many theaters in LA and OC as the seats are far more comfortable, and have wall-to-wall screens. Arclight/Cinerama Dome .. still my personal favorite.<<

Are you in Sydney oc_dean? If you really want the ultimate experience I love going to "Gold Class", dont think you can physically get a more comfortable seat! I guess the only thing is they can bee too comfortable and lead to sleepyness.

I love a large screen so big it takes your breath away. BTW Irishfan ... I saw Avatar at the Entertainment Quarter's Imax (old Fox studio grounds) ...But I regret going there .. when I should have gone to the Imax in Darling Harbour! >:[

I do plan on seeing Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland there. It debuts here in Australia March 4.

Have yet to see anything on the Imax at the EQ, it's a pretty new screen, maybe a year old now. I was at the EQ on Tuesday night and considered going to see Avatar again, but ended up going to see Sherlock Holmes.

To be honest though I'm still not won over when it comes to "regular" movies on IMAX, I just feel it looses something in the size. For the big blockbuster I tend to go to Vmax (ask World Disney, we were regulars at George St), but for smaller scale movies, which I generally prefer anyway, you'll find me at my local multiplex (digital screens).

Do you mean that they show the regular 35mm print (or digital equivalent) on an IMAX screen, as opposed to showing an IMAX-remastered print? I've only seen one Hollywood motion picture in IMAX (V for Vendetta) and I was *stunned* as to how good the quality is. Apparently IMAX has this process that allows them to remaster movies that were not shot with IMAX cameras and turn them into something that looks good on the big screen. I made quite an effort to see artifacts of this conversion process, but could see none. I was very impressed.

Soarin' is a great ride as it is, but the two things that I notice each time and detract from the experience are a) film projectors (because the print inevitably gets scratched and otherwise deteriorates, especially considering how many times its played vs something in a theater), and b) lack of high resolution.

Gold Class is the BEST! And I'm glad I read this, because I forgot about my 2 complimentary passes and nearly let them expire...

Sorry, I know this must be scintillating reading for the 99.99% of LPers not in Brisbane. I'll stop now.

I notice I go to the theatre that does not make me choose ahead of time instead of this location (AMC Leawood)(my former favorite) still like Downtown Disney AMC.

I also do not like the new moviewatcher
    AMCSTubs.com.
?STUBS?amcweirdanddumb. Of course I am irritated with the new Southwest Rewards Program also.

And am closing my Disney Rewards Credit Card since they are so stingy with the points.

So is anybody else punishing all the new online corruption in any small way besides reading Spirit's post? Whenever anybody asks for my email after I have just paid cash I say No I do not want to be on the e-mail list.
I kinda like Panera they are new and generous with points so far!
