It is my impression that petty theft and crime in general is much lower in Japan. There is always a cost associated with loss prevention. So somewhere, someone has figured out that the cost of a biometric system is less than the amount of lost revenue if there was not such a system in place. Biometric readers for sure is NOT a selling feature to the public.

However, it was the MYW ticket scheme that required them to use scanners for ALL guests.

BUT there would be one CM working 2 or 3 turnstyles, so for people who didn't know you needed to warm up the ticket when it was cold, you would end up waiting, until the CM could get over to you. I'm not sure how one finger is going to help this.

Especially after Disney recently installed more of the two-finger panels. They must be confident that things will get better.

Originally Posted By alexbook >>Do you think the need for a "anti-cheat" system is less at TDR because of the ethical behavior of the Japanese society in general?<< DLR doesn't have this system yet, either. I'm betting they're still trying to work the bugs out, then they'll roll it out worldwide.

As far as world wide roll out, I doubt OLC would just follow along with what the other Disney parks are doing. I'm sure the financial doings of TDR are completly up to OLC. The previous system had been in place for years, and it was never rolled out to other parks.

The REASON why OLC doesn't need to do finger scanning or be concerned about resales of tickets at TDR is because.... (drum roll please)... MULTIDAY PASSES AT TDR ARE SOLD ***DATED***!!!! Meaning... when you buy your 2, 3 or 4 day passport, you *MUST* specify what days you will be using it for. WDW's problems begans when they started offering multi-day passes with open dates. No ticket at WDW, as far as I know, is sold with a "date to visit" attached to them, which is the single reason why resales of multiday passes and cheating the system has always been a posibility they have had to work hard to fend off... As for OLC.. they still sell "Open date" tickets but are restricted to only single day passports ONLY. So once you use an open date ticket, IT'S DONE!! Get this concept???? Now read TDR's ticket policy and weep: -One-Day, Senior and Starlight Passports are available as either dated tickets or open tickets. Multi-Day Passports and After 6 Passports are available as dated tickets only. -Dated tickets may be purchased up to 2 months in advance. -An open ticket is valid for one year from date of purchase. -On days of high attendance, Guests holding open tickets may be requested to delay their entry into the Park. Any questions????

I have been sticking my fingers into those filthy scanners since they rolled the idea for APers 3 or 4 years ago!! I know how to use them darn machines. Yet, on Memorial Day, the turnstyle would not read my pass or fingers and the CM was trying to tell me how to do the scanner, to which I replied to him..."I have been doing this since they started this torture, and I know how to use the scanner. It's your system that sucks and it's inefficient." He didn't like that at all.. but oh well!!!
