It is every parent's responsibility to make sure their child is safe, and if you've exercised due diligence it is certainly fine to leave children with, again, PROFESSIONAL child care workers. It is your choice not to, but do not assume that doing so makes someone a bad parent. Unless you've known someone for every moment of their entire life, you have no way of knowing what secrets they hide. Even your best friend or spouse. That's just a plain and simple truth.

I know it's the way to make your child resentful and to teach them that they have no boundaries or say in what they put into their own bodies. In the house I grew up in...my mom purposefully made food that she knew I hated and forced me to eat it. I would actually vomit at the table and she would still make it. My mom also would make me eat liver as a punishment. Forcing a kid to eat food is not great parenting. Now, if a parent knows the child doesn't like the food and still forces them to go to the restaurant, that's wrong. If it's a new experience for the family and the child hates the food, it is proper for him to be quiet, not to whine and not to fuss. The child shouldn't have to eat the food, but the child should have to patiently, and quietly wait to get something at another restaurant. (Good luck with that one. LOL) To me, that is the mark of good parenting NOT a child who is seen and not heard and eats what he hates just so people don't glare at him or his parents. What a wonderful way to spend a vacation.

And that's what I would be doing if I hired a babysitter that a hotel recommends so I could go to Blue Bayou. I agree SaraTonin. I've know plenty of parents who didn't parent to the best of their ability, unfortunately.

I don't really care to go if it's just DH and our kids because we can get Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans. And I really don't want to take my kids to a restaurant they don't like, but I would so my mom could have the chance to go since it would be the only time she'll be able to. Pirate's has always held a special memory for her because she rode it with her grandmother, who is her most favorite person, before she died. She has always wanted to eat in there but has never been able to.
