Not everybody's parenting abilities are up to snuff, that's where you get the parents who don't care. They parent to the best of *their* ability. Whether they are only able to sit and ignore their children or whatever.

Back on topic, for those wondering what the kids menu will be, has anyone bothered to simply call and ask?

Being a parent involves all kinds of sacrifices, including not being able to do things you'd otherwise want to do. Anyone want to start a new topic about parents who bring kids to inappropriate movies because the parents really want to see the movie but there's no one to watch their kids?

    OK, sorry, end derail.

We're going to Blue Bayou in mid-July.

And I really don't want to take my kids to a restaurant they don't like, but I would so my mom could have the chance to go since it would be the only time she'll be able to."

I've seen those parents who take their kids to inapropriate movies, btw, and I agree. You can always wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it.

Not the same as taking the kids to a restaurant at DL with my mom the ONLY chance she'll ever get to go.

SeanYoda and I love spliting the andouille stuffed mushrooms and although I know some folks don't like spicey food, I thought the sndouille sausage was rather mild and flavourful (unlike the other fakey spicey things they serve around the park) and the monte cristo is often too much for one person, and depending on the one you get can sometimes be a little over-battered IMHO. We've been lucky most times.. but hopefully with the way things look to be going they will be taking a little more care with the batter frying and all that (I usually cut off the extra battered corner if there's nothing left on the end). It can be rather oily otherwise..

I look forward to trying both restaurants out in the near future.. and while BB doesn't need real wine (I always order the Shirly Temple or the Mint Julip..Sean likes those) I wonder what it'll be like with the pirates boats going through..

One of the things that bothered me about eating there is that you are trying to have a nice bday lunch there by the water (or whatever celebration) and there's always a bunch of goofballs yelling or howling in the cavernous attraction.. It kind of takes away from the upscale dining experience they are looking for I would think if you have a bunch of jokers yelling and hooting or going "HEY! THROW ME A ROLL!!" =P

Those short ribs look great - I'm thinking I may have those when we go to BB. The mahi mahi looks good too, and I'm not a big cooked fish fan. Glad to hear they've adopted the three-flavor creme brulee and that it's not just boring flavors.

In fact, I don't agree with force feeding at all. My mom did that to me once...it was liver, she was four months pregnant, I TOLD her I was going to throw up. Yeah, it was not pretty.

If you sit next to me and dig through brown paper bags pulling out fritos and sandwiches at the BB, I'm going to be irritated. Why? Because while someone else might not think it's "fancy" enough, for my husband and I (both teachers) it is a special event. I want that event to stay special and not be spoiled by some kid throwing a tantrum because he can't get fries with that. (Don't get me started on the health benefits of french fries and the drek most people feed their children because that's what they like. You won't want to read that opinion either.)

I'll repeat, it is actually against health department code to bring in outside food into a restaurant. The restaurant may or may not say something, but if they do it is within their right.

I also STILL think it is tacky. It's one thing if we're talking McDs (not somewhere I'd take my children, but I know many do). We're not. We're talking a "nicer" themed restaurant where every table should have the right to enjoy the ambiance and emotion of the afternoon/evening without it being unduly impacted by any other table around them. That means that I don't want to see kids running around, listen to loud conversations on cell phones, the crackling of two-way walkie talkies "We're here! We're seated! Yeah! Hurry up!" Picky much, MsD? Yeah, I am. Just the way I was brought up...to understand that my good time ends when it spoils someone else's good time.

Leave the PB and J at home, if the kids can't go to a sitter or you're not comfortable with that, take them somewhere else and plan to return some day when they are mature enough to appreciate a $20 sandwich!

I don't know what I would do since we don't have kids but I think that feeding your kids in the appropriate location would be more sensible then snagging pb&j's from the hotel in your purse/ backpack. I don't see why one can't drop the kids off at the NEVERLAND club for an hour.. does one have to be a guest of the Disneyland hotel itself to do that even if you can proove you have a ressie for someplace you don't want to bring the kids? (I honestly don't know sorry).

Disney is definitely for families and for childfree adults.. I think respecting the enjoyment of all around you is an admirable thing. I'm used to only going to Blue Bayou for special occasions.. birthdays and the like.. it was also my first Disneyland lunch date with my future husband (TMI) SeanYoda so yeah.. Having to sit next to a bunch of screaming & fussy nap deprived kids demanding french fries and cheeseburgers would definitely have ruined the ambiance for me.. but I'm not the type to say something.. kids are kids. It's the parents that need to try harder I have noticed. Your kids come before everything. Wait it out or make sure they don't cry in public so much by dragging them through the park on a hot day and yell at them... or force them to eat food they don't want anyway. I never had that sort of food problem as a kid, (more likely people snagging food OFF my plate before I can eat than not wanting it). =)

I plan on being there in early august with my 2 children who defintally will not just be seen and not heard. you will hear them. I don't think anything inside a theme park should be considered so High class that you can't bring your kids, thats what this park is for....Family. and Family includes your children of all ages.

There really are resort park restuarants that are trying to go upscale.. WDW has many very nice places such as this and they even have a dress code. People who don't adhere to them are kindly reminded at one point or another.. I don't think it's asking too much. Disney CruiseLines has an adults only restaurant on their cruise ship as well. I don't think that it's an insult to anyone to want to have some childfree dining while on vacation.. especially on a cruise where kids are #1.

IMHO, just because it's a disney theme park or say a Mimi's off property it shouldn't matter.. I think we need to give others around us a little more respect than to act like we're the only people that matter when we're on vacation. Sure there's some proper leeway given if it's a small child but if the kid continues to freak out over something that was ordered for them, maybe it's time to have a quiet talk with your child or hopefully you've already determined by the posted menu that it's not something your child will enjoy.

Again, I really don't think anyone is suggesting that children aren't allowed but that if they're kids aren't ready to sit in a public place (especially one where folks are shelling out huge amounts of $ to have a special meal) maybe one should wait or find a sitter. I really don't think that in anyway is a reflection of the poster or children dining in public in general.. just common courtesy of your fellow guest. I really don't think it's a personal insult to anyone or their children.
