I recently ran into an old friend and was SHOCKED to hear he had quit. He was one of those militant smokers. He said he was just tired of hacking up a lung every morning and then going for a cigarette as soon as he could breath again. You just never know. >>>>and yet they make themselves completely and irreparably unattractive thru years of smoke. Makes no sense to me<<<<< Me neither mele.

Part of what bugs me about these anti-tobacco campaigns is that they always refer to it as 'big tobacco'. You never hear about 'big fast food', 'big grocery', or 'big apparel', but for some reason it's bad to have tobacco be backed by big companies. Having grown up in an area that was largely based on tobacco farming and production, I've seen a lot of the impacts from the campaigns. It's not the corporations that are hurting, it's the individual farmers and workers. Yes, they have done a lot to spread the word about the dangers of tobacco, but at what point do they just have to accept the fact that they've done enough? The general population knows the dangers. This just seems like someone needed to justify why they have a job.

That said, I have absolutely no idea if that's due to government, warnings, society or something entirely different!
