I was warned, in no uncertain terms, that I was pissing off some people I wanted to work for professionally and it was in my best interest to not step on their toes and try to live in obscurity in hopes they'd forget all about me by the end of my forthcoming graduate program. I also moved across the country to make contacts and be closer to the epicenter of the field. Finding a design program that didn't think it was a joke to work in the field was also a huge challenge. To them (the academics), it's not art - to even imply it's on the same level as their "high art" makes them visibly angry. Some, who had sought me out based on my portoflio, proceeded to throw it in the trash infront of me after i mentioned my career aspirations. I moved across the country for school, and I wasn't needed at the DLR the way I was at WDW for the UG. I would have to buy my own park tickets *gasp* I was doing really mediocre work under the thumb of others whose design philosophy I detested ("the audience is stupid!" "they wont know any better!" "I'm fighting the director because she thinks she knows better then me and I'll prove her wrong! My ego is the most important thing in the room! Rar!") I dropped out of my grad design program. You'd be amazed at how vehemently institutionalized design programs dislike creativity and individualism. Nor rules. ("Hi, i have a union contract to work for you.. you can't make me work more then the specified number of hours.. and you can't make me teach your class for free for you" "Like hell I can't! Do you want this degree or not?!?") So yeah.. I don't take photos anymore. Don't goto the parks much anymore either.
