What happened to having themed RIDES in a theme park? I'm not against having themed shops, eateries, and what not, but RIDES and ATTRACTIONS are what people come to see! Coloring areas substituting or attractions?? The world's gone mad, I tell you!!!! P.S., I'm not that impressed with the Potter area either. They're only getting one new 'E'-Ticket attraction, too! Rethemed existing coasters don't count as "new" in my opinion.

I also don't count two renamed rides as "new".

But overall, one new "E-ticket" type attraction and two rethemed coasters that I've already ridden won't entice me as much to visit as Universal hopes. The same goes for Disney's new Fantasyland. I'm sure Little Mermaid will be nice, but it's the only true attraction that they'll be adding to a complete land makeover just like Universal is doing with Potter. I guess I'm just getting jaded as I get older, but didn't land makeovers encompass SEVERAL attractions (I mean REAL attractions, not Aurora's Coloring Book Cottage!). Even the new Tomorrowland had two good attractions when it opened (Alien Encounter & Timekeeper) plus updates to the Peoplemover (TTA) and Carousel of Progress. Sorry, until they stop building lame atractions to soley push "merchandise", I can't get real excited by the news from either park.

It dosen't matter if its just ONE! This is going to be THE Mansion/Indy/Spidey of out time. NOONE else is using the Kuka arm on a TRACK which will have 3-D effects WITH sets WITH Animatronics. What's Disney getting? Ariels hair.

If the judges tent gets KO'd that's 3 lines which lead to 3 separate characters in each line. So, the new meet and greets is just a relocation and redistribution of something that would have been lost. Putting each meet and greet in a better themed location is actually a big improvement over walking down a drab hallway and entering a large room with 3 photo sets on 1 side of it. I think everyone will much prefer meeting a princess in her castle rather than her cubicle. I would also like to see some sort of pinochio attraction paired with his restaurant. It is a great character who is underused.

Add to that the Meet-N-Greets and the overall new appearance of that part of the park and I think this is quite an investment. If you glance to the east and look at Potterworld you have to concede that they are doing one major E-ticket, if you will, with the castle experience. And, they are retheming two rollercoasters and adding a ton of merchandising opportunities. plp...when you and I were kids there weren't a lot of opportunities to actually meet the characters. I'm closing in on 40 and I still get silly when getting my picture taken with the big Cheese.

Over the summer we took our kids to the Philly Zoo and it just so happened that they were celebrating the birthday of one of the giraffes. They set up some tables where kids could make a birthday card for the giraffe. Not surprisingly, kids were climbing over each other to be able to make one. If kids can get that excited over a giraffe they have no real attachment to, I'm sure this will be a major hit. And let's be honest, who hasn't seen "adults" all giddy stand in line holding stuff they made hoping to give it to their favorite star on a red carpet or backstage at a concert. It sounds crazy, who wouldn't want to see more rides, but I really think Disney is tapping into what a lot of their guests want with these highly themed M&Gs. I look at it as I benefit because we get a new E-ticket, some new places to eat and a Fantasyland that doesn't resemble a parking lot carnival. Since we started taking our kids to WDW we never stood in M&G lines (that's what Chef Mickey's is for). Our kids would rather stand in line for rides than to meet a character but we've had a lot of friends and family that have been to WDW this year and most of the young ones talk more about who they met and those experiences.

I don't mind that there are meet-and-greet places - in fact, I think they're great. They help make the rest of the lines shorter while people wait for something I would never want to do myself! But, I would probably be interested in riding a few C-tickets - if they were done well enough. I think that would have gone a long way towards making this expansion a better thing for all members of the family, and not just small girls. (And if one of them had been themed to a property that boys would enjoy - like say, The Black Caldron, then that would be even better!)
