They could even sell pieces of Aurora's birthday cake in pink/blue tyedye as well as other tasty treats.

Some of you are talking about this project as if the new things in the pipeline for Fantasyland will be the ONLY things to do in that section of the park. Small World, Peter Pan, Snow White, and Philharmonic will all still be there PLUS all the new stuff. What makes Magic Kingdom parks so great are the diverse attractions, and I think these additions round out the offerings in that land so that there really is something for everyone. Even better WDW is getting a dose of Princess in the appropriate context rather than in Animal Kingdom or, God forbid, EPCOT. In California they are sticking TLM in DCA, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

There were already plenty of opportunities for kids to meet the princesses. True, they didn't have specific meet-and-greets for them, but they were available around the park, you could meet Belle at her story area, and you could meet Cinderella at her restaurant. As for the other offerings, we already had Dumbo, character-based rides, and a sit-down restaurant in Fantasyland. While this expansion does add more of the same, I don't see it offering anything specifically new that "rounds out" the offerings of this land. Maybe if they had included something specifically tailored to older boys, or adults, I could see your point - but as is, I just don't see it. <<Even better WDW is getting a dose of Princess in the appropriate context rather than in Animal Kingdom or, God forbid, EPCOT.>> That already happened. They basically gave the Princesses the Norway restaurant - which makes absolutely no sense because not one of the Princesses represented there has anything to do with that country.

Originally Posted By plpeters70 <<actually TLM is DCA does work, it si going into the PP area which is themed to a beach which is where TLM lives near.>> It’s still a pretty big stretch though – The Little Mermaid lives in a fantasy-world far, far away from the very real California coastline that Paradise Pier is supposed to represent. But, I think with Paradise Pier, they have basically given up any attempt at an overarching theme beyond “sea-side amusement park”, so in that context, having a ride about The Little Mermaid, or a Goofy-themed coaster, or Mickey Ferris Wheel does work – but it is kind-of lazy theme park design.
Originally Posted By plpeters70 <<so I'd be curious to know if people actually plan thousand-dollar trips because they want to meet CMs dressed up like animated characters>> I seriously doubt anyone would do that - but WDW has always been about far more than meeting characters. And even with this addition, WDW still offers many, many other experiences besides just doing meet-and-greets to offer families a valid reason to come down.

A totally new Circus area for Dumbo complete with gaming queues expanded Dumbo ride, and a redesigned roller coaster, plus Fantasy Forest. New restaurants with the possibility of inner-active shows. That certainly sounds like a lot to me. We don't even know the extent of what is going to happen in Fantasyland. I just can't find it in me to be down on something that sounds pretty good, and I haven't even seen yet. If executed properly this is going to be a huge success.

I'm not convinced a ride based on re-telling a movie will be jaw-dropping. I certainly don't think the CG'ed Mermaid ride that was on the DVD was anywhere near an E-ticket.

And, while you can say that nobody goes to Disney for the characters...how many children go to Disneyworld on the Make A Wish program because their last wish is to meet Mickey or a Princess? More than you would think.

I really like the idea of a Storybookland on steroids.
