Many of the long time Disney fans may remember living through the Ei$ner years and so have a reference point for current times. Ei$ner was brought in from ABC by Roy Disney and company to help bring the company back from the brink of economic disaster (remember the book “Storming the Castle”?). He did what he was paid to do but the problem with him (and most CEOs) is that he overstayed his welcome and usefulness. Money from the parks, which were always successful, was being diverted into other aspects of the business. Not bad in itself since the parks would not exist without the films and other intellectual properties. But it got so bad that the parks became threadbare. I remember going to MK and seeing burned out lights, worn out pant, and don’t get me started about Tom Sawyer’s island. Roy help to get rid of Ei$ner, thank god. He was not all bad but he reminds me of someone who knows how to use a hammer and thinks every job then can be fixed with a hammer. With all of this said, I look at the parks as a whole. If at least one of them has a new E ride, I am happy. Everest still pleases me and so I cannot complain and I have not yet seen the HM referb. The last time I was there, about a year ago, they looked in good condition. Could they be better? Yes! Always! Would I tell the detractors to “get some pixie dust”? No! Without detractions we all turn into glassy eyed yes people and we can watch Disney go down the tubes.
