What attraction has been in three different lands?

    Scroll down for answer...

The canoes. They were orginally in Frontierland, got moved up to Bear Country, and are now found in Critter Country.

Another fun oddity are the River Rafts that are in Frontierland, yet their loading dock is directly in front of the Haunted Mansion, which is part of New Orleans Square.

Wed 11/12/2008 10:48p ^^^Right! But back in the day, before NOS, they actually WERE in Frontierland. "

Actually the whole bottom level that borders the rivers of america is considered Frontierland.

New Orleans square is really only the area between tarzans treehouse and Mansion and from the station down to the top level of the fantasmic viewing plaza.

    Its actually a little confusing.

It looks like the Pixie Hollow (former Ariel) area is also part of Fantasyland, which makes sense thematically, but it just seems to me that Fantasyland shouldn't really be in front of the castle. Maybe that's just me though...

That's news to me too. I know for certain that it was once on the maps as being a part of Main Street.

    Sorta yes, sorta no.

The 50's and 60's guidebooks (and ViewMaster reels) listed it as TL, but the famous attraction poster and the E tickets of the same time listed it as FaL. The attraction poster can still be seen (and has never changed), and I am the proud owner of an original 1959 E ticket (as well as some 60's E tickets), and it's always under FaL. Somewhere around 1973 they got around to changing the guidebooks to saying it was in FaL also.

I always wondered about this inconsistency, which the company and Walt himself couldn't have been unaware of, so it seems it must have been intentional. A way of saying "it's on the border area there" (as if it would have been difficult to find!)

So you might say that from 1959 to 1973 it was "in both lands," and after that just in FaL. But it was never "only in TL."

Given how much real estate that kiddie race track takes up, it could be razed and almost make way for another mini-land.

At a certain age, it was one of the DL attractions I looked forward to most, even as much as I loved Pirates and HM and Matterhorn and the other E's. It's a big deal at that age to drive yourself.

Bob is also right that the attraction takes up a large chunk of TL that could (and should) be devoted to something new and dazzling and actually futuristic.

It'll never happen, but they COULD kill two birds with one stone by double-decking the new Carsland area in DCA, with a new drive-it-yourself autopia in the "basement" of the Radiator Springs Racers attraction (theme the enclosed basement level to a racetrack a la WDW, or whatever outdoor environment you want... the autopia set wouldn't care about the "indoor for outdoor" theming, which Disney does all the time anyway; what they care about is driving it themselves).

Obviously, it works thematically in Carsland. It preserves the you-drive-it autopia, giving young fans another reason to go to DCA. If planned right from the get-go, it would take up no more of a footprint than the RSR attraction already planned. And it would finally clear the decks in the NE quadrant of DL for a something big and splendid for TL.
