What does it matter if you brought it up originally or not? You've commented on it numerous times now. And 2oony is commenting on your comments. That's how it works.

And you my friend are either not reading what I've written or don't care to.

    1) I think he makes plenty of money.
    2) He has very little net worth to show for his income.
    3) Although I did not bring it up, it certainly isn't all going to charity.

Essentially, I think he makes a lot of money and has damn little to show for it.

You can put me on the incompetent money managemnet side.

    :)

What's happened here is that Road Trip went on vacation to Branson about three weeks ago. Road Trip's brother-in-law, Leon, is staying at his place and has been posting using Road Trip's screen name.

Boy, he's gonna be so mad when he gets home and reads all this! All I know is, I'd hate to be Leon.

Well, as far as I'm concerned the TYPICAL person with that kind of income and that low a net worth would be incompetent with money management even if he WAS giving it to his kids and grandkids.

I guess if you take into consideration the fact that as a Senator he will never in his life need to worry about such mundane things as health care or retirement, his net worth is adequate. He doesn't need to worry about having a reserve if he loses a job or his healthcare because he is essentially set for life.

So I guess I don’t need to worry about him providing for himself seeing as how we are providing it for him.

But you make a point - he's set with that senate pension, so he obviously hasn't felt the need to enrich himself and get filthy rich off the job. He's adequately taken care of, and isn't so greedy that he uses his senate seat to become megarich. I like that.

What's your definition of change? "Throw the bums out?" If so, that's pretty shallow.

The change I want is competent administration, quality regulation, something that you can reasonably call "diplomacy" in international dealings, and no more cowtowing to the fat cats.

If a Senate committee chairman can deliver that (and Biden sure can if any of them can), then bring 'em on!

If you include this single property, that would elevate Biden's net worth to the neighborhood of $2M. Like most middle class Americans, it appears the Biden's net worth is largely wrapped up in their home.

    Um, make that $2.4M.
    $2.1M.
    $1.7M.
    $1.2M.
    $900K.
    AAAAAAAAA, MAKE IT STOOOOOOOP!

So, when a poster tells you that someone with the net worth of $150K is somehow a poor money manager, you have to also acknowledge that they are still managing their money better than over half the population of the United States. This is another reason why wealthy conservatives like John McCain are so out of touch with America -- they really have no clue what the typical American earns, saves, spends, or endures to make ends meet.

If this is a bad thing (as you are trying to spin it), then Biden would be one of the last of the lawmakers you should be attacking. Besides, cheap shots about pensions from the early retirement guy..really? I suppose they should just get nothing when they retire, right? Like everyone else. Great Republican platform there (we all know it wouldn't apply to lawmakers though..no sense even arguing the issue).

You've spun around in circles so much at this point that you've invalidated your own argument.

Given the FACT that his job happens to provide medical and retirement benefits, there's no reason for him to accumulate a gigantic nest egg.

Thus his money management is just fine.

If you looked at a company which was hoarding cash for no reason, you'd have to wonder what their problem was. Generally you keep what you need with some prudent reserves (even as little as 100k - 150 perhaps, for a small but healthy business), and then you use the rest for your company to build and grow.

Without some sort of forensic accounting, we really don't know what the guy does with his money (the "up his nose" comment was a cheap shot, though), but for all we know he does spend it on his family. Or perhaps he donates to charity anonymously without claiming it on his tax forms (gee...that'd be pretty patriotic, huh?). Or perhaps he has an extensive Disneyanna collection he spends a lot of cash on.

    Who knows? Who cares?

But your argument that you need to hoard tons of cash or "you're not taking care of your family" is pretty ridiculous on the face of it.

Not to mention rather unsound in a business sense. What's he need to hoard cash for (as you pointed out)?

In addition, there is the issue of a public servant having to be careful about conflicts of interest particularly in terms of investments. Many lawmakers couldn't care less, but perhaps his low returns are intentional in order to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

So that could have something to do with another one of your cheap shots about his "low returns" (see the Alan Greenspan interview in Fortune magazine about how he had to be sure his investments ALWAYS underperformed the market just to avoid the appearance of favoritism..something ALL lawmakers should do but most don't).

And round and round your arguments go.

Anyway, it's pretty funny that you guys can't bring yourself to even acknowledge some of the nice things folks are saying here, such as how much time this family devotes to charitable work, Plano it's very nice that you donate lots to charity...admirable even...do you not feel that his families extensive hours of charitable works is not equivalent though?
