It's pretty absurd to say we need change and then say I'm the man to do it even though I've supported the status quo 90% of the time. >>And we all hate what Dems have done with control of congress, so why would we want that in the White House?<< Again, "we" don't all hate that. Try speaking for yourself. The people who hate it are the people who live in the fantasyworld of the right-wing noise machine, the people who get their "news" (and I use the term loosely) from O'Reilly, Hannity, and Rush.

Democrat Mr Obama was favoured by a four-to-one margin across the 22,500 people polled in 22 countries. In 17 countries, the most common view was that US relations with the rest of the world would improve under Mr Obama." This is HUGE. Bush has single-handedly soured the way the rest of the world looks at the USA. That is not a fluffy, inconsequential issue. In terms of the US' security and the US' economy, our relationships with other countries matter deeply. The world would view the election of John McCain as confirmation that Americans in general have been supportive of the ignorant, selfish, and imperialistic comments, practices and actions of George Bush. The world would view the election of Barak Obama as an indication that Bush's actions did NOT reflect pervasive ignorance, prejudice, and selfishness on the part of the American people. As Americans, we've been indoctrinated from grade school to believe that the rest of the world loves us unconditionally. And that if they don't, they should. And if they don't, well, hey, who needs them, anyhow? The truth is that we DO need them -- now more than ever. And that electing Obama will help us regain the worldwide respect that Bush has so seriously weakened. For anyone who has not made up their mind about who to vote for, I would suggest that this issue should decide it.

Being an expat, it's palpable how deeply the world hates our guts since Bush took over. Well, a couple of years into it really...I believe it would've been sooner had 9/11 not created an unprecedented wave of compassion, sympathy, and international brotherhood that Bush turned around and took a dump on.

In the US presidential election of 2008, the citizens of the US need to send a clear message to the world that we do NOT condone the ignorance, hostility, arrogance, and pettiness with which Bush has represented the US for the past eight years. Voting for the candidate that was of the opposite party of Bush in our two-party system was the answer well before the party nominees were chosen. The fact that the Democratic nominee happens to be half black is an incredible PR bonus in the fight to change the way we're perceived. The fact that Obama publically pledges to talk to ALL parties engaged in critical world conflicts is a huge substantive plus. (Except, of course, for those who want the US to support Israel at all costs and, to that end, want anyone with an opposing POV to remain unheard.) The Republicans are pitching McCain as the "keep US safe" candidate. Because he'll do... what? Keep us in Iraq? Continue the demonstratedly ineffective "security" measures we've instituted at our airports? Continue to demonize the Islamic world while maintaining top federal agencies that don't have any employees who actually speak Arabic? Add a new color to our "Warning Level" chart? Uh, huh. Oh, but I forgot: he was a POW, and therefore an expert on international security issues. Personally, in terms of security, I'd rather our country be represented by a guy who doesn't carry the baggage of Bush, who has the respect of other world leaders, and who opens dialogue instead of invoking hateful rhetoric.

With our near trillion dollar trade deficits it will be only a matter of time before we are totally owned by the rest of the world. Heck, all they would have to do to defeat us is cut up Uncle Sam's Visa card and stop trading with us. The shelves at WalMart would be bare within a week. Game over.
