It was inevitable that they would eventually come to a position of influence. My former brother-in-law was director of Catholic Social Services for Arizona and is at least as liberal as anyone on this board (except for the issue of abortion, and even there he is considerably more liberal than most Catholics). He left Catholic Charities because of conflicts with the hierarchy but remains very active in a local liberal Catholic Parish.
