    What a jerk.

It doesn't matter what specific arguments Gingrich was making regarding Clinton's improprieties. Republicans argued that the line between private and public morality is nonexistent ... that a liar in his personal life is apt to lie in office. Now Gingrich expects the GOP to change their minds about that? Not happening here! Even if he wants to run for president, he has no chance of winning the GOP nomination.

That said, there still IS a difference between Clinton's and Gingrich's behavior, so Clinton's fan club should not be gloating over this. Gingrich lied and broke his marriage vows ... more than once. Clinton did all that ... AND asked others to cover for him, AND made unwanted advances towards other women, AND assaulted a woman (allegedly, but with a very credible accusation against him), AND had his machine go after and trash the women who dared to speak up against him.

Gingrich is a total hyporcite. Clinton is all that ... and a thug.

Any attempt to distinguish who's the better person but still a cheat is, well, comical.

Yes, it is. Almost as comical as this:

But, to answer that question, Mr. Bones, I offer President Millard Fillmore, who married his teacher. Newt, being a keen student of American history was probably well aware of this, and merely wanted to emulate the last member of the Whig Party to occupy the White House.

But what I do care about is when someone points fingers and denigrates others while doing the exact same thing. Newt did more than that - he was gunning to absolutely destroy clinton - not because of his mock outrage over sexual indescretions, but because of partisan politics. If newt could have found something else, he would have used it. He couldn't, and so he used the only scandal he could find.

This is the very definition of an absence of morality, honor and personal dignity. And, as always, it comes from those who are proclaiming their own sanctity the loudest.

We've said it before, but GOP scandals always resonate more because of the posturing of moral superiority that they adopt. You don't see that in democrats.

And the part that I don't get? Republicans don't seem to care - the EXPECT hyprocrisy among their own.

Your point being? Is this an attempt to excuse Newt's behavior?

No, I don't think so...I think he's just not too shocked by badly behaving politicians (on either side) anymore.

It struck me as funny following the statement, "Any attempt to distinguish who's the better person but still a cheat is, well, comical." The idea that marrying a former teacher is somehow particularly egregious is as humorous (to me, anyway) as attempting to differentiate between degrees of thuggishness in cheaters.

What you don't get, actually, is that about the same percentage of Republicans as anyone else are appalled when their leaders fail. It's just that the ones who rush about offering lame defenses that get all the attention.

No one here, Republicans included, are offering any defense of Newt Gingrich's hypocrisy.

that would be me, the base starting point for any politician any more is not to trust them as far as you can pick one up and throw them....and most do not disappoint
