We had just enough left to pay for our meal and the balance was zero. I had to specifically ask tje CM for it back! He said he thought it was like a giftcard and just thought we would not want it back. The only reason I asked for it back was that I knew the next day, our new points would be available so I wanted to reload it. It only took a second to call and get the new points. I was so glad that I remembered to get it back.

I ordered a new one for our trip and it took a loooong time to get here, over 2 weeks! It just came today!! I called on Thursday though asking why it wasn't here yet and found that the delay was in the processing at Visa, not due to the mail.

I would call Vosa back and ask for a supervisor and explain your situation. I think you could still get one in time for your trip if you hurry! Good luck.

About the time thing, when I ordered my card for my trip last summer he gave me a date that it would arrive by. I don't remember how long it was, but I do remember that it showed up two or three days later than he said.

My hubby told me not to worry about it. He said if we can get one great, otherwise we'll just use the points on our next trip. So, I haven't given them a call.

I personally called Chase and I still had $27 on it. So, remember to keep track of your balance too!

(That is just so hard to think of doing though, $1000 charge just to get those $10-ugh!)

dlkozy, you are so right!! Never let them keep the card and don't believe what they tell you the balance is. You can always call the 800 number 24 hours a day to get your balance.

Also, be sure to actually look at the card-lol. I had forgotten that it had to be activated by calling in so am doing that now!

They have a strict security cutoff when there are any unusual charges placed on a card. That would include a vacation and Christmas shopping. It was suggested to me the last time they stopped my card (after I charged a bunch on my Disneyland vacation) that I let them know before I go next time so that it doesn't happen again. The customer service representative told me it's written in their agreement somewhere.

It makes it so much easer that way and I told them to call my cell phone if they think that there is a problem with my card that way It will give me the heads up on everything.

I will STILL call again prior to leaving on vacation, but don't be surprised if you get a strange response from them. AND, I always carry a back up credit card just in case this very scenario happens, although I only like "using" one credit card at a time.

ALSO, for those of you who have alarm systems, be sure to call your alarm company as well to tell them you are leaving. It is important because that way they will send the police immediately if they know you are on vacation and it is not a false alarm.

Good thing you were persistent, because it most certainly wasn't a fluke. It had happened to me two or three times and it just happened to me AGAIN! I have another Chase card that I just about never use because I want to get my Disney rewards. Last week I lost my Disney card so I cancelled it and while I was waiting for the replacement I had to use the other card. Well, since my usage went from "none" to "some" they froze it!

I straightened it out later but it completely ruined an internet order I had placed (delayed it to the point that I didn't have use for the item any more).

I just went to get gas and found that they froze the card AGAIN!!!!

Once I started useing the card for almost everything they finally stopped putting freezes on the darn thing. I even forgot to call on my last trip to DL and did not have any problems. So I hope that yours stop soon also. It makes me so darn mad.

Gosh, I never heard of anything like this! Putting a hold on the credit card is so awful!! I wonder why they do some and not others since we have never had the problem even when we went on a trip for 3 weeks on the other coast! I used my card for everything including the hotels and really built up the points for our upcoming trip. I would just be furious!! if that happened to us. I would probably never use the card again!!

I have had Discover card call once or twice after I made a giant charge "just to double check" they said, but never have I had any card put on hold. I thought Discover was silly calling after the charge but I figured it was just to make sure if it wasn't me, they could stop any futher damage!
