The Spirit is one of my favorite posters, one of the few online folks that I'd really like to meet one day. I just don't understand jumping into a topic for the sole purpose of telling everyone else that they're participating in a lame topic. >Why is Disney honoring a freak?< I hate to put it this way, cuz I'll sound like a babbling fan, but Disney is not honoring a freak - they're honoring a musical genius whose contributions to the fields of music, dance and music videos was considerable. I'm sure the decision was made in light of the incredible outpouring of support after his death that they would honor his earlier contributions, not any of the strangeness that became his later life.

I'll give you an autograph and a LE pin and a 'The Spirit IS pure Magic' tees in exchange for copious amounts of Disney alcohol! I jumped in as you put ... because ... well, it was the first topic I saw (haven't been spending much time here of late) ... and I just think everything that could be said about the subject has been ... and you always get a few wackos who want to start going back and forth about MJ's private life (which to be fair is yet another great reason why EO should not have been resurrected). I really wasn't trying to be dismissive or obnoxious (not that I need to try as it seems to come naturally!) >Why is Disney honoring a freak?< <<I hate to put it this way, cuz I'll sound like a babbling fan, but Disney is not honoring a freak - they're honoring a musical genius whose contributions to the fields of music, dance and music videos was considerable. It just will go back and forth. Disney isn't trying to honor MJ's musical genius (and he was) ... anymore than they're honoring some of his bizarre behavior. They're trying to make money off his death, which I find grotesque and typical of a major American corporation in the 21st century. But this will go on and on ...

That image somehow makes me feel better! >Disney isn't trying to honor MJ's musical genius...They're trying to make money off his death...< I'd have to say that my personal belief lies somewhere in the middle. There's definitely a tribute to MJ there, but of course they're gonna make money off of it as well. They would be foolish to blindly open the attraction without carefully considering any possible backlash. I just don't see them quite as callously as you do.
