I do not go on quests looking for problems. I don't, however, check my mind at the gate. I do have a discerning, critical eye (like WDW CMs and management USED to have). Sorry, but that's a good thing. When I was on Mansion and noticed the horrific screeching interference on the sound system in the graveyard, was I supposed to ignore it? Forget that it's been that way since at least last spring? Forget that a decade ago, something like that would be fixed overnight? <<Take for instance the armrests in Philharmagic you mentioned above. The attraction had barely been open for a few months before I too noticed that the stain on the armrests started to wear off. The problem was apparently the choice or application of the original stain (of which after 50-some years of making attractions you would think they would know what works), not "poor maintenance". I don't remember the exacty timing of events, but I do remember seeing the armrests wearing off like that and thought, geez, how could that happen so fast? My next trip into Phil they had all armrests but those attached to the very ends of each row (as they are part of a themed side panel) replaced. Now, there is no way they just had 100's of armrests sitting in the back awaiting such a problem. As they started to wear, new armrests were probably ordered and they were replaced in what I consider to be a respectable timeframe (even though I thought the darker stained armrests were nicer)....probably having very little to do with that OS article.>> With all due respect, I disagree. Disney responds to negative publicity. The 'This Old Park' story ticked off a whole lot of people as far away as Burbank. This I know for a fact. Maybe it was all a coincidence, but I don't think so. ... and, FWIW, those few armrests that haven't been replaced really standout now. <<My point is people of today are greater slobs and care very little about their surroundings as they might have been during the days of "old Disney". The trash people leave behind after a parade when an empty trashcan is within walking distance is also evidence of that.>> I agree 1000% percent. BUT, that's why Disney of 2004 has to be even more diligent withe upkeep than Disney of 1989. <<Rotting wood and other such damage that is not at the hands of guest damage though is inexcusable and if I remember I will look at that overpass between F-land and LS the next time through the MK to see the extent of the "rotting wood".>> Just look up as you're heading into F-land ... you can't miss it. <<You definitely have developed a keen eye to find anything that is wrong in the parks, I don't think anyone can dispute that.>> Again. I think having a critical eye in life -- not just Disney theme parks -- is a very healthy and good trait. <<I hope though you can find a way to let go sometimes and just enjoy yourself. From the very fact that you visit enough to always report back on these things, as small as they may be sometimes, is evidence that you do go to have a fun time, otherwise why spend so much to visit.>> I ALWAYS have a good to great time at WDW. ALWAYS! This is despite a lot of lowering in quality that I would have to be brain dead to not notice after all the years I've been going. The only truly bad moments I've had at WDW have had little to do with things like rotting wood, smelly logs on Splash Mountain or a lousy redo of the Imagination ride, not once, but twice. No, the bad times I've had at WDW have either been due to bad/rude/incompetent WDW CMs or just scummy guests. I LOVE WDW! Why people don't see that is beyond me. <<Wouldn't a report once and a while on all the great things WDW does be a breath of fresh air though?>> But I do just that. I always do a good, bad and ugly report. There's plenty good, a whole lot more on that side or else I wouldn't be going. Heck, I even started a thread called 'Kudos to Disney Management' to give them credit for expanded holiday hours this month. I just find that some people can't handle negativity, or worse, anything that makes them think. And I for one don't come to LP.com to discuss whether I like the breakfast at Chef Mickey's or what character I like best. <<As for SGE, I too liked AE better, but I still think SGE is a decent, harmless attraction that offers great effects and superb animatronics, even though the ending is crap and the storyline is more simple-minded (which is another feature though that makes it more kid-friendly then its AE counterpart). I agree something even better for Stitch could have been done, but again, I honestly don't think its as bad as so many reviews say...but obviously I'm in the minority.>> But this is basically what I've been saying all along. It's a wasted opportunity. It's a shame. I love Stitch. What more can I say?

This attraction is meant to be prequel to the film, so the character is not reformed as was mentioned by WDW1974. During the ceremony, he was carried off-stage by security which illustrated that his act of toilet-papering the castle was not appropriate. But he is definitely naughty during the attraction as well. For me, the attraction really should be named Experiment 626's Great Escape. But I'm guessing that they felt having Stitch in the title was important. It reminds me of Imagineering's decision to have a wooden puppet at the end of Disneyland's Pinocchio attraction. As it was explained to me years ago, they were concerned that guests may not have made the connection that the boy on the bed was an awaken & transformed Pinocchio so he is instead the classic wooden character. I understand the need to stretch the story a bit to fulfill guest expectations. But back to Stitch, its nice to see a character that is full of mischief as part of the Disney family, although I could do without the burps and nose picking that Stitch participates in. I'm just not a fan of body humor, but I like that he misbehaves but is mostly good. I really enjoyed the new attraction. The opening ceremony felt uncompleted. It was honestly odd. However I loved Stitch breaking up the Cinderella Surprise Celebration show. Who would've thought that there'd be a logical reason for dozens of Elvii to be dancing to the King's tunes at Cinderella's Castle? As a Stitch fan and a Elvis fan, I enjoyed it but wanted more. On a side note, as we rode the monorail around 9p that evening, the decor was being removed from the castle. It was there for just a day. Rebekah.

HOwever, this post and one before it about the lowest common element aren't really fair posts. I realize you don't like the castle but the way you set up your argument makes it dangerous for anyone to disagree with you. If someone doesn't agree with you they are put into your less cultured catagory, they are the unsophisticated who will laugh at any burlesque humor thrown their way. Although I agree with you on some things and totally respect the way you feel about the castle, I just wish you weren't so quick to pass judgments on anyone who dared to think it was cute.

Why would anyone be afraid to debate anything Disney-related in an intelligent manner? My response was aimed at someone who chose to attack the poster rather than the post.
Originally Posted By WDW1974 <<Stitch offers so many exciting opportunities for Disney simply because he is naughty but yet he doesn't really mean to be. >> Well, actually, in the beginning of the movie, he does. But he is easilly my fave new Disney character (i.e. non-Pixar) in years. <<This attraction is meant to be prequel to the film, so the character is not reformed as was mentioned by WDW1974.>> Yes, but shouldn't he be known as Experiment 626? You could still call the attraction Stitch's Great Escape ... besides Stitch must refer to himself by name a dozen times during the show. Continuity anyone? <<But back to Stitch, its nice to see a character that is full of mischief as part of the Disney family, although I could do without the burps and nose picking that Stitch participates in. It was honestly odd.>> That's my reaction to the attraction. Rebekah, did you ever experience Flight to the Moon/Mission to Mars and/or Alien Encounter? Whether you liked them or not, they told a complete story with an ending ... and without resorting to belching and spitting. I REALLY wanted to like SGE, but I didn't.

How? <<If someone doesn't agree with you they are put into your less cultured catagory, they are the unsophisticated who will laugh at any burlesque humor thrown their way.>> Hey, I love unsophisticated humor in the right places. And as far as being less cultured, there are plenty of people less cultured than myself ... and plenty more that are more cultured. I don't see what that has to do with anything. <<Although I agree with you on some things and totally respect the way you feel about the castle, I just wish you weren't so quick to pass judgments on anyone who dared to think it was cute.>> I am not passing judgment on anyone. I found it tacky, but I really would rather discuss the attraction because that's going to be there for years. The ceremony and castle 'additions' were all gone after a day.

I know that before I was more familiar with your posts I was terrified to say anything because you may call me out. After reading your posts for awhile I know you aren't THAT mean . As far as discussing the attraction goes, I am all for it. Here goes: I haven't seen a lot of it, as I haven't ridden it yet. However, from what I have seen it looks cute but that takes away from it because the only reason I liked AE was to at first scare myself and then scare those I love because I didn't tell them before hand what the attraction was. (I can be a bad person like that sometimes.) PS I didn't mean to sound angry or anything WDW (I know I did though...sorry if I made a stink for no good reason!)
Originally Posted By TDLFAN >>During the ceremony, he was carried off-stage by security which illustrated that his act of toilet-papering the castle was not appropriate<< Ok. So... how come security doesn't show up when I see guests doing similar trashings (leaving discarded cups and paper plates all over the park's benches, walkways etc etc etc) and nothing is done to correct rude behavior like that? Double standards if you ask me.

It's only a discussion board about Disney. This isn't Iraq here. And I try not to 'deplore'anyone before I meet them, but I do admit not having much affinity for people who don't think and/or are afraid to stray from the perceived norm. <<Again only that people who don't know your posts very well may be afraid that you'll call them out as being less worthy of going to Disney because they didn't agree with you...that's really all my point is.>> My opinion on who's worthy of going to Disney is irrelevant and I'm the first to admit it. But I'll also say many of the people I see at WDW do scare me for all sorts of reasons. The same could be said of the people I see at the mall, at my workplace or in my neighborhood. People can be scary. <<I realize you aren't passing judgment on anyone but the park itself. But I've also been told by many people (and not just friends) that I'm too nice, and not mean enough. I agree. <<As far as discussing the attraction goes, I am all for it. And at least you backed up what you had to say. I believe you are being honest. I can't say that for everyone here. Just like in the real world, there are agendas here (and I DO have one or two myself). The difference between me and some other folks is that I will admit to what mine are when they come up in the context of a discussion, while others aren't quite as forthcoming. And have a great weekend (and I mean that in the nice way)!
