If you couldn't figure out Nixon before the election, it was your own fault for not paying attention. We knew all about Tricky Dick long before he ran against Kennedy:

This is the stuff that ticks me off the most. Failing to have a basic grasp of major events in the country and the world, then walking into the voting booth. How the heck does that serve your best interests or the interests of the nation?

The scandal Nixon was embroiled in, back in the fifties, was major. The Checkers speech was a carefully staged TV event designed to reverse the negative public opinion that threatened to sink his entire political career. And unfortunately, a gullible and easily manipulated public bought it hook, line, and sinker.

Voting for any candidate without knowing the basic history of that candidate is irresponsible. That's why I'm shaking my head over the Wisconsinites who cannot fathom what a scumbag Walker has turned out to be! Really? Did you even bother checking this man's political and professional background first? Where his campaign contributions came from? Obviously not. If they had, I doubt they would have voted for him.

It's like a previous poster here on WE, who hated the lobbyists and their involvement in politics. So what did he do? Vote against the incumbent who's made a career of trying to rid Washington of lobbyist influence. Instead, the poster voted for the incumbent's opponent, who made an infamous D.C. lobbyist his chief of staff, and who took several million in campaign contributions from lobbyists and the corporations they serve.

Voting ignorant is worse than not voting at all.

Except that the Republicans (especially DeLay) made sure Clinton's scandal became anything but a personal matter.
